What stops you

What stops you doing something you really want?

Maybe you think the money could be spent better elsewhere or no money

Maybe you don’t think you can take the risk right now

Maybe you’re worried you may not like it or you may actually like it

What stops you doing something you’ve always wanted to or do you just do it anyway?

Have you ever done something you always wanted but found the reality of it wasn’t worth the wait?

And it’s not all sexual things either

I like going away on holidays but only want to go with other people, so I can’t have a holiday to somewhere nice until I have someone to share it with.

And please don’t say “You should just do it, I go away on my own all the time” etc etc. if I hear that again I’ll scream.

I’m the same. There are places I’d like to visit but I don’t want to go alone. I just wouldn’t enjoy it solo.

Fear of making a mistake.

I tend to rush into things without always thinking about the consequences.

Familiarity. I like routine and knowing what is around the corner. Until I don’t. But I wouldn’t risk that unless I was certain of the outcome.

Lack of spare money.

Responsibility- to my mum, my children and my 3 dogs.

Things that stop me doing as much as I’d like are time, money and dog care!

Aah! "The kiddies' play area syndrome"

Sometimes you can play there on your own: slides and climbing frames.

Swings are solo play equipment and also work well with a friend.

Roundabouts, seesaws and witch's hats are absolutely useless without someone else to get things moving, ie pushing, pulling and jumping.

Meanwhile for the adults...

A landline is useless without another talker on the other end. Mobile phones can exist without a single word being spoken.

Money is one reason why I don’t do a lot of things

But the main reason is anxiety ! I used to have such severe anxiety and I’ve worked so hard on it and now it’s manageable but I still don’t do stuff because of the fear of being perceived. It’s more the fear of being perceived by family members, tho.

I also have massive trust issues and hypochondria that stop me doing stuff that’s thrill seeking/adrenaline

Myself. Well, doubts and uncertainties. And time. That's a very precious resource to me.

I'm recently more fond of going for it. Embracing life and not making excuses. Now I have another date in the making with someone I think is rather lovely. Sometimes it's good to go for it. Try it and see what happens (resources allowing).

My health stops me from doing much physical these days

My mental health stops me from doing ANYTHING fun, I have severe agoraphobia and can't go more than two streets away from home without panic attacks, so that's very limiting

Money stops me from doing a lot, my partner steals from me so they can buy beer and tobacco and energy drinks, so I'm left with maybe £100 a month if I'm lucky?

Nothing has ever stopped me doing what I want. I'm single-minded in my pursuit of things I wish to pursue. Has everything always worked out ? Of course not. Do I regret anything ? Non, je ne regrette rien.

The only regrets I have ever had are for things I didn't do, not things I did.
