How do you stop your eyes stinging when cutting onions?

Breath with your mouth

Wear swimming goggles

Place a wet piece of kitchen paper next to the onion you're cutting

Don't lean over the chopping board, keep a straight and upright back so that your face isn't directly above the onions

Feel free to try one or more of the above.

Use your razor sharp wit. Failing that go on a cruise to the Bahamas depart and do some snorkeling, cycling and examine the mating rituals of rare species of snails and when you get back the onion will be rotten so you won't have to do it anyway

I mean use your razor sharp wit to cut it instead of a knife I forgot to say, and get a large Japanese knife and be sure it's very sharp

Cut the root part off first. Most of the sulphpids are in that part which causes the tears. Cut the top part off then down the middle.

Should be fine.

Gone and completely forgotten.

Make sure your knife is as sharp as possible.

A blunt knife pushed into an onion will release more of the enzymes that cause the burning.

Tape your eyes closed with duck tape and guess where the onion is, granted you may lose a finger but your eyes won't sting!
