Do you remember dates?

2 years ago today I left a long term vanilla relationship. He had an affair that I found out about afterwards.

I feel a bit headfucked about it today, it was the start of my life unravelling as I went on a month long party session before Dad was diagnosed.

Does anyone else remember dates which to others seem unimportant but to you feel very important?

No, i only remember important dates, the only reason i remember when my ex husband and i split up was because it was day after valentines day.

I remember important dates, have no idea when i split up with the first guy i lived with. I dont even remember the exact date Jay and I started our relationship

i think thats what the OP is saying, they are important to her but maybe from an utsider they would seem insignificant.

i am a bit rubbish with dates to be fair. i cant remember the dates my grandparents died een though they were very sad times for me

To be honest though, any date that is important to us is just another day to everyone else. Anniversaries, birthdays, weddings ect

I remember all the dates for things that are relevant to me. The date people died, the dates I started and left relationships. Been engaged 3 times and could tell you each date..Could even tell you the date of my wedding that never was..

I am a bugger for dates

But it can be a good thing...If it is an important one like today is for you OP, I plan to do something nice to remind me how lucky I am to have the life I have now....

I wish I could forget, but I can remember exactly what I was doing on the day, the process of how I did it, his response and who I was with afterwards.

My head is battered from thinking about it.

Oh I know if I hadn't have left I wouldn't have started swinging and then wouldn't have met the incredible friends I have through the site. It's a strange melancholy of emotions.

I can remember telling Dad I was going to leave but when he was better (this was the night before) he looked at me very sadly and said, "don't wait for me to get better." It was as if he knew he was dying.

I had forgotten what being happy in a relationship was. I only remembered when I met J. I thought happiness would come back though xx

Thing is when bad things happen in our life and we make a decision. In time we learn to realize that was the best decision of our lives.

At 22 i walked from an horrendous, violent relationship with an alcoholic bully after 4 years, if i hadnt of left he would of killed me. It was a bloody big thing to do to walk away, there was no battered womens hostals or anything i just did it alone.

Roll the clock forward 25 years and im in a relationship with a guy who is the polar opposite, loving, sweet, kind and gentle. When i look back im angry that i stayed in that relationship so long but i also know that it partly made me who i am today and that i have finally got what ive always wanted.

I think for me it's more about remembering dates that have had a huge impact on me whether they be good or bad. I remember the date my ivf failed, I do remember the date my ex left some years back despite it not being particularly significant now as it was the best thing he did for me and I remember the date I first had my heart really broken as it was fairly recently but birthday etc I'm useless with and have to rely on my phone!!

I've said it for ages that I should have left when things started to go downhill. When his affair started (the signs were there) but I didn't because I worried about him but also what I would lose through leaving. In the end the last 2 years of my dad's life were me being really unhappy.

Dec 27 1985 at 10 15 I nearly died when I had a motor cycle accident. The copper thought he was coming back to a fatal. I broke both bones in my right ankle and 5 bones in my foot. Put paid to me joining the army something I regret to this day.

I remember a set of dates to this day, when my solicitor gave me a piece of A4 paper listing all the dates and hotels when my low life ex was playing around, they had to be produced for the court because i was doing him for Adultery

Other dates stick in my head for various reasons.

Met Kate 6th June 1981. It was a blind date and I was listening to England play Hungary in World Cup Qualifier while I waited in my car for her to turn up.

She didn't show at the agreed time, but I decided to give her a little longer.

She knocked on the car window just as England scored their second goal.

About 2hrs later, I scored too

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. Last year I had just had my appendix out so was so off my tits on morphine I didn't remember. This year its as if I can't stop thinking about it.

I wish I could not think about them. It was at 2 o'clock I made the decision to actually leave the relationship that day and not hang around any longer; 5.30 when I told him.

I have tried for a long time to forget dates of certain things i don't want to remember, most of which i have managed and i now only remember the rough time of when it happened which i can deal with

There is however one date i have never been able to forget - 12th December 2002 - and if i could swap and remember all the others just to be able to forget that one i would!

For me that date was the start of most the bad things that happened to me and why i ended up the way i did

I have learn't to forgive, but i can never forget (unfortunately!)
