"I often get an attack of IBS before a meet, it's awful Stomach can bloat 2 x the normal size and frequent trips to the bathroom in the few days leading up to it. For me, buscopan relieves the cramps, and I have also taken immodium. " I’m in the exact same position, it’s the nervous energy that really makes things worse. It doesn’t just have to be a meet, it can be something at work, waiting for a delivery or simply waiting for an important call. I don’t take anything for it but I do wake up an hour early for work to make sure things are ermmm, settled shall we say.

"My lactose intolerance was wrongly diagnosed as IBS 15 years ago and since I discovered this I've rarely had any issues apart from the very odd occasion if I eat something that doesn't agree. I've been hearing a lot of good reports about people using Slippery Elm supplements and I know a number of people who swear that they have made a major difference to their IBS issues but whether it works for everyone or not I can't say. " That’s very interesting, I’m going to have a good read up on that one and hopefully try it out. Thanks

"Ive been to the doctors and had tests for colitis, chrons etc but all came back fine I tend to suffer from bloating and IBS like symptoms. Anyone try and avoid dairy and does that work for you?" I had all those symptoms and had every test going. They found nothing at all but said it was "probably" IBS. As soon as I cut out dairy all of those symptoms disappeared and only ever flare up if I eat in a strange restaurant or dairy isn't listed in the ingredients. It's also worth noting that Lactose free products in France and other parts of Europe actually do contain lactose but because they are below certain levels they are classed as free from. They would not pass in Ireland or the UK.
