It's a beautiful Sunday morning. When was the last time you reached out to a friend to check in with them?

I check on my friends weekly. One in particular is going through a terrible time.

.

Last night I messaged a friend who is going through quite a lot at the moment. I reach out to those who matter to me. Check in without trying to sound like I'm checking in.

I tend to be the one who erm gives that energy to others, rather than receive it. I'm okay with that.

Went through hell earlier on in the year.... luckily a friend reached out and saved me.

As men we find it hard to talk and keep things bottled up.

People are always too weighed down with their own self importance to care about others it's only when its sadly too late do we wish we'd made that call or popped round to say hi, we all go through periods of our live where we need a reassuring word or a hug, go do it today you might just save someone's life 💋

Yes I've noticed that a lot of men are unable to talk. I'm happy to see that it's beginning to change and glad that your friend reached out. Are things better for you now?

The particular friend who is having a really tough time continually says she's ok. She isn't but her way of expressing it is by complaining a lot, so that's what I let her do.

I think it's important to recognise that people express themselves differently.

If I know friends are having a hard time I do try to check in with them. Sometimes I don't know about it but friends will message me when they have a problem they want to talk through.

I’ve been trying to get in touch with a friend of mine who’s gone a bit awol for a couple of weeks now . It’s not uncommon for him , sometimes people hide from being reached out to .

I don't do it so much and must make more of an effort.

That's really kind of you to ask thank you. Yes this weekend has been a good one and I'm doing well thank you.

It's a great point you make. Most men seem to be pretty rubbish at this sort of stuff. I found out about my step sons friend who is having a really tough time right now and just made me think what can we do to help.

The point about men not being or feeling able to talk is a good one.

It's worth considering how much judgement is aimed at men who express a problem (sometimes awkwardly and poorly) and how many times we encourage them to 'suck it up' or 'just accept it'
