"I'm not sure if people think he was let off ........ he wasn't He got a £650 fine. (usually £100 and 3 points ) The judge accepted he wasn't speeding for speeding's sake and was speeding for a reason ' to get to his mum on time' BUT the judge explained that the reason was NO EXCUSE and landed a heavier fine than usual. I'd have asked for the usual and a speeding course or 3 points" I don’t think a speed awareness course is available if you are more than a certain percentage over the limit, which in this case I’m thinking he would have been well over.

"I don’t think a speed awareness course is available if you are more than a certain percentage over the limit, which in this case I’m thinking he would have been well over. " You’re right. But I think it’s a simple over 10mph over and you won’t be offered a course but I’m not 100% Over 96mph, (again I could be wrong but fairly certain) and it goes to court. You can’t get a fixed penalty offer. It also nearly always means a ban so if they were doing 100mph and didn’t get banned, they got off lightly. I got caught at 107 in my younger, boy racer days. My employer wrote a letter explaining I’d split from my kids mother and lived 40 miles away and next to no public transport links to get to them or work. I avoided a ban but got 6 points and a hefty fine and court costs. £460 and this was about 20 years ago.

"A read of the very small article says he was fined £650 and had 5 points put on his licence for doing 100 mph in a 60 zone. The judge understood his reason but never accepted it. What's the story here? I miss Tom 😕" where is Tom?

" A work colleague of mine was given a speed awareness course for doing 27mph due to the stupid new Welsh 20mph rules on a road that was previously 30mph and had never had an incident on in the 97yrs of its existance...

Someone mentioned but it is up to the judges discretion...so back to my original answer, all say your able mum who is using airplanes cannot wait for someone to turn up to pick her up and you might get a lesser deterrant

I'd assumed he was on a motorway..... So he was , in fact, 'let off'.

No, just a small town on the coast in Essex, not too far from Colchester.
