None of it! 😂

If it still snowed like it did 20 years ago I might tolerate that! But I don’t like the cold 🥶 and I’m still waiting for my 3 months of summer so winter can jog on till summer has been ☀️🕶️

Wirral

Stews and crumbles bubbling away in the oven.

Crunching over frosty grass, my breath coming out as puffs of vapour.

Mittens and hats and enormous scarves (I have the most fabulous sequinned bobble hat that I love wearing).

Bonfires and the acrid smell of spent fireworks on November 6th.

The first pristine white day of a snowfall, before it turns to dreary grey slush.

Huddling under a winter weight duvet with someone who can keep me warm.

The unfettered joy that comes with the first warm spring day where I can wear a jacket rather than my Big Coat and turn my face to the sun like a sunflower.

I look forward to those things that I've been looking forward to since the start of spring, being an Åutumnal person myself: brisk walks in the cool fresh air and walking over reddish fallen leaves, log fires, comfort food, warm puddings, comfortable knitwear, mulled wine... 🍂🍃🍁

.

I love the lighting during Winter, doing away with harsh Big Lights and embracing candles, twinkling fairy lights.

The clothing - men in snuggly jumpers and cardigans, wearing knitted bobble hats and jumper dresses. Cute knee high boots and satisfyingly chunky ones for long walks through crunchy leaves. Pashminas and scarves. The richer colours that appear. The soft muted tones.

The food - piping hot jam roly poly, cinnamon liberally applied to drinks and puddings. Hearty casseroles. The abundance of comfort food, cheesy festive nods. Foraging. Home baking with silly playlists and embracing food as a love language.

I adore how well it lends itself to ghost stories, spooky films. The beauty of nature in Winter.

And I am really looking forward to dates in Winter. The warmth of hand holding whilst meandering around bookstores, farmer markets, seasonal coffees, kisses as the snow falls, late night tipsy walks illuminated by stars and gentle street lights. Hiding from the cold in dimly lit cocktail bars, hotel rooms, with each other.

I quite like all seasons but the 'ber months have my heart.

Miserable walks in the cold, with the rain blasting horizontally in your face, and the dog on the lead behind you tugging to go back to his warm bed, completely pissed off with you for dragging him out into the wet and the dark.

I might have to emigrate back to SE Asia.

So much. I like all the seasons for different reasons and here is some of my winter list:

Because it’s cold, dark and wet outside everyone stays inside, including all the noisy little turds, and keep their doors and windows closed which means it’s always nice and quiet.

I know I’ll always be able to sleep instead of lying on top of the covers sweating.

I get to snuggle in bed (even on my own) under my big winter duvet.

In the evenings I get to close my fab new teal curtains and feel cosy.

I get to have ridiculously hot showers.

I can eat proper stodgy comfort food like stews and crumbles with custard. And roast dinners (but not with custard).

I can wear big warm clothes to dates so women can’t see my weird body shape until they’re in love with me and trapped.

Places with fires light them.

I get to put my car seat heaters on.

Guy Fawkes night.

Christmas (which I don’t mind talking about WHEN it’s actually Christmas).

I can ruin hotties all evening without breaking into a sweat.

The school holidays are only two weeks long. Little bastards.

I love running when it’s cold.

I don’t feel guilty about not going outside. But when I do, I get to wear my awesome warm coat.

My winkie gets smaller so more women are interested.

I like waking up when it’s still dark.

I get to work from home so I rarely have to endure external jobs or crappy morning drives.

My car ice scraper has a little mitten on it so my pinkies don’t get coldie woldie.

I appreciate the harsh beauty of the British countryside - leafless trees, low lying mist, rough coastlines.

I can treat myself to some brief winter sun.

It’s nice being all cosy inside when a proper winter thunderstorm is raging outside.

That’ll do for now.

Longer days from December 22nd.

We have 3 months before winter starts. Autumn has only just started (meteorologically) or hasn't started yet (astronomically)
