Sending hugs from one diabetic to another. Hydrate before you go…. I know you know but just incase you’ve forgotten

Manchester (she/her)

Hydrating before blood tests is always a good idea no matter what test it is (if fasting, they usually let you keep drinking water). Easier for them to hit the spot.

Ok so basic rules

Hydrate well. Better hydrated means better blood flow.

Warm your arms… warm jumper even if you’re slightly uncomfortable, you can cool off as soon as it’s done. Warm arms means more blood flow and makes it easier for the phlebotomist to find the veins.

My diabetes nurse told me different…. She also asked do I need to smoke? 😂

Hydration is important all day … don’t eat bananas and (I can’t remember) as they high in sugars …. Look after your feet! Never walk barefoot … and don’t lotion between your toes!!!

Just keep trying to eat better things … keep trying to walk …

And alcohol wasn’t mentioned as I don’t drink so that I can’t answer

💜

My mum always said look after your hands and feet can’t do nada without them

Bananas are very high in sugars so won’t be helping your sugar levels ! I’m allergic to them and other fruit so the fruit I can eat are not too high in sugars !

I had no leaflet or book 😂 my nurse just talked me through it … checked my feet … took my blood and weighed me 😂

Just try to do what you can … I started slowly even just by trying to do an extra 100 steps … drinking an extra glass of water 💧

💜

I got the exact same advice from the consultant mate, didn’t say it to my face but when letter came though (about 3 months later haha) it had in bold “strongly suggest diet and excercise”

I'm still waiting for any kind of guidance or booklets or help and it's been a long time since I was diagnosed

A literal journey of self discovery

Water is the most important thing when you have blood taken. Always drink before and after.

When donating blood they give you a bottle of water to drink beforehand.
