I was just in a chippy that was charging £14 for fish & chips

In rip-off Britain that's apparently not too bad ( it did have peas/wedge of lemon/tartaric sauce)

But still pricey.

What's the most you've paid?

What's the most you'd be willing to pay? ( celeb chef in harrods is charging £37)

And would you be up for something less pricey and more sustainable than cod n haddock?

C'mon let's have your opinions on this matter and not just your usual obsession with boobs n willies. This is an important issue and needs to be discussed seriously.

Somewhere In The Ether…

I paid £18 but this was for two of us.

By my mathematical genius I calculate that this works out at £9 each give or take.

Be sure to join me again next time when I will attempt multiplication….

My local is about £10 but for that you get 2 pieces of delicious Scottish Haddock and a pile of fantastic chips. Sometimes you get a wedge of lemon. Great value as it goes a long way.

For a portion of cod and chips near me it's around £14 but the portion is big enough for 3! So I'd say it's definitely value for money

I think my local is now pushing £20 for one.

I usually choose a more sustainable option, and (growing up outside the UK) don't see the obsession with cod/haddock. I mostly had flake (shark) growing up.

I never actually order fish & chips

Maybe I should treat myself one day and report back the price. Will definitely have to throw some curry sauce in too!

Fish is very expensive. Jumbo sausage is a good cheaper substitute

The Continental

Usually spend about £15-20 depending what we have. The portions are so big that there’s enough for lunch leftovers the next day. So it represents banging value for money.

Around here (East Anglia) most chip shops in coastal towns/villages charge around 13-16£ for large cod/haddock and chips. The ones further away from the coast are somewhat cheaper, but not by much, maybe in the 11-13£ range. I think you can get away with less than a tenner if you buy medium fish and large chips. Portions are quite generous in most shops. Quality varies and is not apparently directly related to price.
