Maldon and Peterborough

A think there's a walk around the city walls,

The cathedral,

The shops/lanes. Some great and unique shops

There's a viking museum (but it's a bit smelly).

I'd suggest staying on the outskirts and use public transport.

Have a great time.

Just moved to York myself… if the weather is dry definitely walk the walls… give to a great feel for the city and its history. A drink by the river… perky peacock on Lendal bridge is good… not open late tho. Again if the weather is good the bar on top of malmason hotel… book if you want to sit outside. Food wise… skosh is amazing but you need to book. Public transport is great and cheap altho tends to stop early but cans are reasonable so you can stay a bit further out. Fri and sat do get loud and crazy in the centre! Have a great trip!

We went many years ago and stayed in a nice B&B. It was just opposite the youth hostel. The youth hostel itself looked lovely. You might want to consider that as I know they do private rooms

We used to stay in a hotel on St Peter's Grove, it's now called B+B York. It's a 10 minute stroll to the Minster and has free parking on site.

If you like Italian food then Delrios is lovely and is in a cellar so dark ish and cosy. Betty's also great for afternoon tea.

Have a fab time

A walk down the Shambles and around the market behind is always a good way to while away some time.

I'll second Betsy's but with the caveat there was a long queue when I visited.

Cathedral is great - you can also pay to go up the tower on the day (it's weather dependant). Cathedral tickets are valid for re-entry for 12 months

I would recommend the Lucia Restaurant on Swinegate, great steak.

Also York Art Gallery.

It's hard to beat the view of the Minster on a full dry autumn day.

I hope you enjoy York!
