Carlisle usually

There are much more effective means of catharsis out there. I prefer not to have to resort to the forums for it.

Occasionally, as a way to waste a bit of time. Occasionally there's the odd post or poster that you want to say some very bad words to but have to bite your tongue. That's not so cathartic

At times amusing, at times annoying.

Some threads are worth reading but often have to hold back what I want to say, either due to not being able to explain it well enough or being too open.

From my POV, they provide 'company', even if that doesn't involve direct interaction with anyone

I am not classically lonely by any means, but a readily available alternative to real life friendship is sometimes useful

A scribble board of thoughts, emotions and brain dumping

They also provide distraction - I find that, in itself, very helpful

A chance to switch off

So the time I do spend here is cathartic to me

You guys make all the difference without realising

I only hang out in the lounge. It’s like the smoking area at work. Most people (myself included) are just chatting bollocks and it can be a laugh sometimes.

I think some use the forums as a form of colonic irrigation.

There are a number of enemas.

Couldn’t have written it better myself! Plus I enjoy forming bonds with likeminded people and having a giggle.

No. They're for mild amusement.

The best it can offer is another soul you can vibe with.

If someone finds it cathartic more power yo them.

Certainly an escape as long as you don't get sucked in into heated debates and such like. Also like the ones that involve everyone so that everybody feels included. There is often good info about and of course cake, cake, cake.

They definitely provide me with a welcome distraction from other issues and as others have said they can be fantastic company

I also like reading other poster's POV and thinking about why they are so similar or different to my POV

Not sure reading the forums fits my definition of cathartic tho

In case anyone wondered (and I have zero doubts you all did, even those who haven’t read this thread) why I won’t go postal in the post office is cause that works just be working there. And I don’t.

I'm sure the taste of a stamp is something that will be lost in history.

I can remember being on a post office queue with my mum and her asking me if I wanted to lick it.

Lowestoft

lol

Not sure what to call it lol

For me I tend to take each to their own opinions but have been on posts that are infuriating to say the least lol. Have written scripts on my browser to remove some people on the forums as found them completely bent in their opinions only and if you don't follow their believe then you support mass murder lol.

But saying that I do enjoy reading posts in some forums and often take them with a pinch of salt.

So as far as forums being Cathartic, Not really lol but can be fun to see who is in the same frame mind as myself

Nø. I think the forå, as a collective, can be the antithesis of catharsis. At the very least it's a place for escapism and light relief, and nothing more.

The forums during lockdown were cathartic for me. A bit of company when the world felt scary and we didn’t know what was going on.

There’s comfort in familiarity.

Often, yes. Tonight, no. It doesn’t happen a lot but every few months someone proves themselves to be a thoroughly irksome c**t. Being argumentative for the sake of their own oneupmanship and pissing on everyone’s chips.

Tonight is one such occasion and makes me wish I had assassins only a text away.

I long to receive that text “It’s done.”

Not really, a bit frivolous yes, vaguely amusing on occasion possibly but the forums that are just a diatribe of vitriol i find off putting and i dont make comment because i come on here for escapism not a virual arguement.

La la land

It has been in the past, especially during lockdown when I vented about being ill. And there were plenty of the forumites who offered help and a ear to bend. For all the negativity the forums tend to attract it really can be lovely.

Although I feel that recently the topics are rather "safe" so there's less openness.
