Consume fewer calories than you burn off. Some exercise is good but like any other muscle, it'll just make your abs bigger which won't make much difference if they're under a layer of fat

Visible abs are mostly down to very low body fat percentage. Exercises can help them be more visible once your body fat percentage is low enough but exercises alone won't do much.

There's also a lot of genetic factors depending on your body fat distribution. For some people, they don't have to lose as much body fat for them to show so they can maintain it easier. For others, they would have to maintain such low body fat that it's miserable for them or even outright unhealthy.

So basically, please be careful OP and don't make it the be all and end all.

Diet. Literally 90% of it is clean eating and it gets harder as you get older.

This.

Try and find exercise you enjoy, then it’s not a chore. Sadly, less booze is also very helpful!!!

Adding resistance to ab training can help because you build the muscle like you would anywhere else. If you can do a set of 10 Dragon flags wearing ankle weights and your body fat levels are low and you still can’t see them it’s likely genetics at that point.

You will get so many good pieces of advice on this one and some shockers so read careful and act wisely…..

Main thing about getting shredded is eat clean, when I mean clean I mean no bread no pasta no chocolate no beer,, you need to work out which body type you are in terms of carb uptake, some people can cope with low carbs and have a lot of energy others burnout throughout the day and have bad cravings, four weeks of that, will give you time to adjust and work out which foods are giving you crashes and which aren’t

Then you need to start introducing exercise and before anyone shouts at me this doesn’t have to be strenuous, walking is one of the best ways to build a calorie deficit if eating properly but it will need to be about an hour of strolling about

Do not worry about training properly until you have some sort of diet exercise baseline, what people do is they try and hit it from every angle straight away and end up giving up three weeks in, take your time and within three months or so you see a massive difference good luck op

Dietary changes. Exercise is a poor approach for weight loss. And it's impossible to do spot weight loss, as the body will lose it wherever it sees fit to

So this is what works for me.

I eat clean. That means avoiding processed foods for the majority of the time. I still eat bread and pasta but about 5% of the time. I eat a high protein diet (meat, fish, eggs, yoghurt) with lots of vegetables and Legumes. Avoid sugary drinks like fruit juices. Avoid alcohol. Stick to tea/coffee and drink plenty of water. You can still eat carbs cause how else are you going to have energy to exercise but you are going to have to gauge how many carbs based on progress. You shouldn’t even consider this a diet as this is a healthy way of eating.

In terms of exercise I built mine through heavy deadlifts and squats (calves touching calves) which gave me a strong core. When I say heavy I mean over double body weight squats and triple body weight deadlifts. The only direct abs exercise i did was use one of those cheap ab wheels. I no longer train this way as I want to preserve my joints but the hard work has already been done.

But as I said, I built my abs with those exercises, everyone has abs and you’ll get them by reducing your body fat. I train with weights but there is more than one way to skin a cat. Either way consistency is key here. I train 3-4 times a week. One thing for sure is, that if you do decide to train with weights don’t forget to train your legs.
