This is a very personal thing, as perfumes smell slightly differently on each person, I wear Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum Spray

I've recently rediscovered an old favourite, Aromatics Elixir by Clinique. People never fail to compliment the fragrance.

Perfumes tend to vary in how they smell, how they project and how long they last depending on the person's skin type.

It also depends if they enjoy crowd pleaser type scents or if they like something a little more niche.

‘Best’ isn’t a metric one can apply to perfume and it suggests you’re more interested in material things.

Perfume should be about her - what she likes, what you think might smell good on her, maybe a designer you know she likes.

But as has been said, it’s a very personal thing so tread carefully!

A super popular one which seems to suit a lot of people is YSL Libre.

It's sophisticated and powerful while still being feminine with a white floral opening and a woody vanilla base. I think it's classy. I have not met anyone who hasn't liked it (though statically there will be someone who doesn't.). I think it's a good safe blind buy.

"It's a dangerous thing buying perfume for other people!"

So true.

OP perhaps you should find out what she wears now or type of scent she likes, then go to perfumesdirect.com or similar sites to get equivalent match / suggestion.

Another option is to buy a discovery set. They're usually quite affordable and have a variety of perfumes from a brand allowing her a better chance to find one she likes.

I liked the penhaligons one, and I've heard good things about maison margiela one too.

Yes I am perfume obsessed.

Ghost Sweetheart is my personal favourite on my own skin.

If it's a gift for someone try to see what they already have or what scents they usually lean towards and work from there.

What does she usually smell like?

Floral? Citrus? Musk?

If you go to her house check out what bottles are around and what scents they are.

I would just buy her a gift voucher for The Perfume Shop so she can choose her own.

I wouldn't recommend this approach.

You could perhaps buy her a gift voucher (e.g. John Lewis etc) and invite her to join you in a department store and give her the opportunity to try different scents to suit her tastes and preferences, with the intention of using the voucher to purchase her gift.

"I would just buy her a gift voucher for The Perfume Shop so she can choose her own."

This is a great idea, as what one person likes, wont be the same for all.

I don't like the smell of certain perfumes that are popular and they don't smell the same on all women.

Unless people know what I wear and they are replacing a bottle, then it's OK.

I think prefume is very personal and smells different on other people.

A gift voucher for a perfume store would be more acceptable

Next time you meet her, ask her what she is wearing. You will get a bonus point for telling her that she smells amazing, also you know what smells good on her.

Very hard thing to buy. My perfumes smell very different on me to others cause it's natural oils in the skin that react different

Do this OP. Don't buy her one unless you're certain she'll like it. You could make a day of it and you'll find out more about her. My taste is rather particular when it comes to perfume and more on the expensive side... I'd hate for someone to buy me something I won't use and that I don't like/am allergic to.
