Billy v Les? Is this best comic of 1987?

😂

Les. I'm one of those rare people that finds Billy quite annoying.

Thank god, I thought it was just me!

Grumpy, I'll have to go Les as I dislike him less than Connolly 😃

Exactly this. He has some good jokes but he's too full of himself while doing the "I'm so humble" act, laughs at his own jokes, and he traded in actual jokes years ago for just shouting and swearing

Now apart from the odd moment I find Conolly annoying. A bit to fond of himself.

So....I find Billy close to genius...but also bloody irritating.

I find Les a master of the genteel absurd, bathos, pathos, and something with incredible heritage that's centuries old.

But dodgy jokes about mother in laws and wives were always a bit wince-y.

Billy would get it for how he broke the mould (and he really did), Les for sheer comedic artistry and depth of humanity.

It's tough - really tough - but I go Les.

He touched a few more parts of the human story than Billy for me, and that just carries it.

Billy in his earlier years would easily have won, but now I find he's too far up his own jacksy. So for that reason I vote for Les.

by the big field

I was lucky enough to work with Billy on a few shows several years ago. they were his first shows back for several years after the Parkinsons diagnosis.

The first night wasn't the best, he was obviously nervous, very quiet at the start and seemed to stumble on a few of the gags- but the audience were definitely on his side.

Throughout the show, he seemed to gain confidence that he could still get the laughs and his smile stated to return, everyone had a good night and he got a standing ovation at the end of the night.

Next night, from the start, he had that glint in his eye, he moved round more, took the piss out of a few of the usual heckles and interactions, went off script a few times as he suddenly remembered some random thing and he just had that extra energy- the whole night was a big improvement on show 1 and he seemed genuinely moved at the applause at the end.

While he's never going to be what he was 25 years ago, to go on stage in front of a paying audience with the real possibility it could go seriously tits up from his illness takes serious taters....he's also a consummate story teller, great TV presenter and brilliant musician.

As entertaining as Les was, it has to be the Big Yin for me.

Paper Town Central, Essex.

Les.

Another awesome comedian that never had to swear or be crude to be funny.

I don't count the occasional mild expletive deletive.
