It is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on anyone's funeral, but I am more concerned at the trouble next Wednesday may cause than the cost of it.

Riot damage will add countless millions to that bill if it happens....which I suspect it will.

What annoys me is that many of the type of people who 'might' get involved in this type of behaviour were not even born when the Thatcher era was ruling the country. It seems just an excuse for some to be twats. I agree with peaceful protest completely. But violence and destruction never touches those in power anyway. Ordinary every day people suffer, and in these times they can well do without it.

if ones political position is looked at as a pendulum, the people who 'represent' us are all at the centre..

By all accounts he was set to be dismissed anyway and got in first with his resignation - and he wasn't a front line officer either.

Reading between the lines I think he knew that tweeting offensive remarks as a serving Police Officer would attract negative attention to the force as a whole.

Good job he's not a policeman anymore, who'd want that sort of person upholding the law.

£10m? Personally, no, her family should have buried her privately and let that be an end to it. For the country, and tourism, having her interred at St Paul's only adds to the other famous names in British history who rest there, but the bottom line is that Margaret Thatcher did a lot of good in her time in power and I think it would be a pretty poor show if we couldn't give her a send off that her status as a world leader and a ground-breaking woman deserves.

Many people still aren't making the connection that their online social networking activities are increasingly being scrutinised as an indication of what that person is really about. If I was looking to employ someone I would definitely look them up on FB or Twitter and get an idea of who the person is who wants to work for me. Social networking is a part of life now and it is almost the same as if you stood up on a soap box and shouted out what you believed in like people did in the old days, only now - everyone's doing it, and everyone's watching.

Look at it another way: many tens of thousands of people will be in London next Wed (and probably Tues and Thurs too). Some will be there to show respect to a world class stateswoman, and some to demonstrate against her. All will have paid to get there, all will pay to eat and drink whilst there, many will pay to stop in hotel accommodation overnight.

£10m seems well spent when you think of the money for London it will generate.

Actually, if you care to read the Press and go beyond the vitriol etc being spouted, the bulk of the Funeral costs are being borne by Maggie Thatcher's estate. The Government is paying for the security and other admin costs.

In reality, Maggie Thatcher had always said she didn't want a state funeral, but a private, low-key one. It's the current Government, her friends and allies who have elevated this funeral to the status it's receiving!

I personally think she did not want a big deal or a state funeral but I am totally disgusted and I mean DISGUSTED at people's attitudes on here and in the real world, most weren't even born at the time and whilst I was born, I didn't follow the full politics of it all!

And yes I am from a military back ground, and from all I have learnt over the years, she was always in our corner! Not like the most recent government that are only looking for cutbacks, but still want to put us in the firing line!

And even forget the politics of it all, she was at the end an 87 year old woman, with health problems and children and grandkids, a little respect is not too much to ask for!

What also has to be taken into account is that a percentage of the "homeless" are actually criminal gangs who beg on the streets during the day, and go home at the end of the day to homes in outer London or beyond! They rake in a lot of money.

The Wizard of Oz is an oppressive film about a young girl who, in her quest to find a better life, dropped a house on the ruling monarch, stole her shoes, and then set out on a road to a bejewelled city run by an eccentric man who had elevated himself to the status of God and instilled fear in the entire populace to the extent that going to see him was considered to be extremely foolhardy.

Unions, by their members who blindly followed their leaders in a route of self destruction, and by many people who still hankered in the _iew of "it's not like it was in the old days"

Industry, commerce, business has to constantly evolve to survive! Sadly, most of Britain's workers failed to see that! It still exists to this day too!

so, it wasn't just governments who "played their part" as you see it; it was the good old British worker who dug their own industrial grave too!

She didn't cause the Falklands War - General Galtieri did when he decided to invade British Sovereign Territory and take it by force. The Falklands are as much a part of the UK as the Isle of White, so what would you expect the government to do if France decided to invade the I.o.W.?

She also didn't personally order the cover up over the Hillsborough disaster. Yorks Police covered up the aftermath of the disaster and had Maggie known about it at the time I am CONVINCED she wouldn't have allowed it to remain hidden.

Mrs T didn't hate the poor, or single mothers, she misunderstood them. The people closest to her have stated that she wholeheartedly believed everyone had the ability to become better than they were, she simply didn't understand that some people will never amount to much for the simple reason that they weren't born with the brainpower to succeed. That is a fundamental fact of life and not some political argument.

Ok, so when an adult commits a heinous crime he/she can blame it on nurture and not nature then? Why are psychopaths labelled such when, under your nature/nurture argument, they could have been normal members of society if only their mother had loved them a little bit more, or at all. Your argument doesn't stack up in the weight of medical evidence that irrefutably supports the fact that we aren't all born with the same brainpower.
