How tolerant are you towards someone who lies to you?

How many times do you allow them to lie before you call them out on it or do you turn a blind eye and say nothing?

I would say it depends on the lie. The impact of the lie would dictate my reaction

It depends on the person. If it’s someone I don’t really care for I’ll just ignore it. If it’s someone I do care for then I’ll call it out and I’d want to know immediately why they’re lying to me.

Split up with my last partner as he lied about everything and It was so draining. I used to put up with my mums lies because it wasn't worth the drama of confronting her. Usually she'd tell silly stories that didn't happen to family friends. Me and my brother would just eye roll at each other at another story about something foolish we did. I'd have thought she'd at least lie about our accomplishments rather than inventing failures ffs.

Sounds like the Mandela effect with your mum. I read about that the other week and realised I know so many people who do that! I think I probably remember things differently to what they actually are at times x

I pick up on them pretty quick

I’ve just been having a bit of fun with a cat fish profile there. Reverse image search helps but I’ll keep going till I’m bored then reveal I’ve known all along they weren’t who they said they were

Usually get blocked then I report them

Tough one as I’m not very good with conflict tbh.

If I suspect someone is lying to me I like to have some kind of proof that I can layout before them or at least subtly hint at!

Makes it easier especially if the lie is severe and you wanna call full BS on the person

I'll gloss over it but think less of them.

Sometimes I'm far too forgiving when I shouldn't be.

There are some little lies that I don't mind glossing over as long as they come clean within a reasonable amount of time.

But some are just absolutely unforgivable.

Once.

If they lie about the small things. They'll lie about the big things.

And once they lie once, I'm questioning everything you've ever said, or done. And I don't wanna live like that.

I'm not at all tolerant although I may seem it I don't initially call people out but will after I take some time to gather myself and think is it worth calling out, is the hassle/drama that comes with it worth it.

There does become a point where I'm just no more enough is enough and then I'm done, they'll be out my life.

I like quiet & peace and lies don't fit with that.

It's so very dependant on who it is, what the lie is about, if it's for personal gain or to save someone's feelings, if they come clean on their own, and how they behave afterwards.

If it's someone important to me I'll call it out, usually without judgement until I understand more, and go from there.

If it's an acquaintance I'll ignore it and not engage further.

Once and once only. It needs nipping in the bud straight away or it will only get worse xx

When people lie about 'who' they are it's very difficult to call them out.

When they lie about what they did or something that happened it's easier, if you can be bothered.

I don't like lies and although I'll tolerate them from people I don't know well everyone close to me is truthful as far as possible

It very much depends on the lie, and reasons for it.

Sometimes a lie can be a positive thing.

My stepson has real trouble with the truth, to the point that I take all his "stories" with a pinch of salt. Fortunately, it's rarely anything that matters, life just isn't as exciting as he wishes it was.

On here, one strike and they're out so to speak. I don't have the relationship with them, that I have with say friends or my partner.

That's also because people here will lie solely to benefit themselves.

With people I know well, I'll tolerate it to a degree, but if their lies are motivated by causing harm to others or me, I'd walk away from them too.

I used to work with a woman who couldn't lie straight in bed, she was caught out several times in lies and stirred up trouble for other staff.

I can't be doing with all the drama arising from lies or twisting the truth.

I had a parent who’s basically a pathological liar, and so I think I must have been trained from a young age to never call out a liar. I find it EXTREMELY hard to tell someone they are lying. So instead I mentally note it and take stock of the situation ONCE I’m away from the liar.

I'll generally call it out, unless I know someone is very vulnerable and how they can't cope too well

To tolerant to my own detriment in the past, probably a lot less now. In a lot of cases it’s a red flag and I don’t have the energy for games or peoples nonsense with needing to manipulate and use friends or love ones x

I tend not to confront anymore, I can’t be doing with the drama. Once I discover someone has been lying to me or otherwise fucking me over, they’re gone. No second chances.

Fully dependent on the lie and why it was said...

Saying I was a Tesco when it was Aldi I wouldn't care but if that same lie was a justification used to say why they were late by an hour getting home it would then become relevant for further calling out/questioning.

Being with a narcissist has lighter before some lies are pointless to call out. Just remove yourself from that person.
