The site software sometimes corrects the '&' symbol to 'amp'. Basically it means 'and'.

Apparently when children were reciting the alphabet years ago they ended with 'and per se & (and)' which sounded like 'ampersand' when said quickly, hence the name

Many people if asked to draw an ampersand would do a @ which is disappointingly just called an at sign.
