Do Your playlists on youtube/Spotify or wherever ever make you feel fucking old? 🤔😂😂

If the tunes are almost as old, maybe even older than who you're with in your car/lounge/bedroom, is it just a sign that you have good taste and that modern music isn't on par (I know that's a generalisation of course) with older stuff?

Or do you not worry? I mean....Anthony Kiedis is 61 now FFS, Tom Morello 60 and the god that is Dave Grohl 55....but I still listen to them pretty much daily over new music.

I remember thinking my dad's taste in music sucked when I was a teenager (it did, trust me), but thinking back now I wonder if people in their 20's & 30's feel the same about stuff I listen to now from the 90's and early 00's? 🤔🤦‍♂️

Sometimes they do 😂

What I do find myself doing though with bands is class their ‘new stuff’ as being from the mid 90’s 😂

Manchester (she/her)

I started getting into music from the 70s when I was nine or ten. I was born in 85.

I don't so much feel old as I feel that I'm different. And I got over that last century. I'm weird, and that's fine

I mean.....how is American Idiot 20 years old. And why does Billy Joe Armstrong still look like he lives in his parents basement and goes to school? 😮😮

😂😂😂😂

I think not so young billy has invested in his face to be honest .

I saw them a lifetime ago and I still can’t think it’s 20 years since that album .

Pearl jam’s Ten is over 30 !!

I grew up in a house where music was always playing, so it has always been an important part of my life. I have very ecletic taste in both genre and era, so it definitely doesn't make me feel old. I enjoy it when songs pop up on Spotify's random playlists and remind me of particular times in my life... usually happy memories, but occasionally sad ones too 😊

Our teen loves the music we love and listen to. As well as discovering her own favourites - she adores Depeche Mode. She has also introduced us to some fantastic new artists - Chappell Roan for example.

i don't use playlists much unless i have no signal. i use radio app on my phone or a dab tuner on my separates in the house, usually tuned to radio 6, so i'm constantly hearing the latest non-chart music. try it...you may like it

Missin’ Yo’ Kissin’

No, I listen to what I like.

Melody & good song writing skills are very important to me! As is technical competency.

I like voices that are different eg. Robert Plant; Klaus Meine; Dua Lipa; Miley Cyrus; Nina Simone; Ella Fitzgerald; Nat King Cole; Natalie Cole; Depeche Mode; Prince; Freddy Mercury; Massive Wagons; Vol Beat etc. I like a wide variety -my taste is eclectic. Blues; classical music; jazz...

Dubai & Nottingham

A lot of the music I listen to now was inspired by my kids when they were teenagers finding new stuff and dragging me to festivals!

I listen to the odd track from the 80’s & 90’s but most in 20’s. Naughties was a phenomenal decade for music, 2010’s not so good & 2020’s poor.

I think right now there’s a huge lack of new talent with Grammy nominees like Gracie Abrams, who started well but has been molded by the industry also like female drake ,to make a pleasing sound that soothes children.

complete demise of bands for the last 2-3 years as collaborations become the new way musicians work together.

I don't have the Stones on Spotify. Good job because I think the youngest is 104.

I have plenty of others including Dave Grohl. But new stuff to balance it. B*Witched etc

My all time favourite song was released 4 years before I was born and I still think it stands the test of time.

"I wanna be your dog" Iggy and the stooges.

My play lists is a mixture of sexy rock like QOTSA, the black keys, kings of Leon, the strokes. That sort of smouldery stuff. Even that is getting old.

Great taste in music. Indie Rock fan here and my Spotify list reflects that. Add Kasabian, the Cult and one or two others to your list and it's complete.

Also the Lockstock album is brilliant and has Iggy's song on it.

Not really. The only time I've experienced that when was I heard a song that reminded me so strongly of my uni years and then I looked up the release date and thought "fuck I'm getting on a bit". That's the only time.

Love a bit of Kasabian too. Gonna be a day of mourning for me when Iggy goes - if he ever does that is.

No not really OP. My music tastes are totally eclectic but seeing as most I listen to are from the 80s and 90s then I just keep partying like it’s 1999 😉

I still go out to clubs that are full of younger people. Korn, Slipknot, Linkin Park, SOAD are still played as well as classic GnR, Metallica, Nirvana, RATM, RHCP. More old stuff then new I'd say.

Darling, there is only one way I can answer this:

"...Let's go crazy, Let's get nuts

Let's look for the purple banana

'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!..."

😁

I think everyone has a tendency to listen to the music of their youth, familiarity is comfortable. Definitely no RHCP though, I’m with Nick Cave on that front, and of course Kiedis is a r*pist.

I try to stay a bit more up to date, some electronica, or the likes of Fontaines DC, Idles, Lambrini Girls etc. but I still reach for the older stuff just as often.
