Yes man down, not going down on a man, although that’s an option for some

I think I have had too many lemsips today, although blackcurrant flavour, so maybe lemsip isn’t the right word.

Anyway that’s got me thinking (dangerous I know)

Do you have any cold or flu or health remedies you take when either unwell or on a regular basis?

Forest of Dean

Honey and ginger tea to soothe the throat

A couple of rehydration sachets to make sure you’re electrolytes are balanced

Paracetamol and ibuprofen alternated throughout the day (paracetamol not to be taken with lemsip as it usually contains it).

A good decongestant nasal spray

Best and quickest fix is lots of water and sleep as much as possible. Our body is at its best when asleep for carrying out body maintenance and repair. So less screen time, that will only stop sleep.

Regular basis vitamin C and Zinc.

I juice and take a lot of vitamin C and generally avoid touching my face with my hands that seems to stop coughs colds and other bugs.

If I do get sick which is very rare, I just follow the basic advice of 24 to 48 hours in bed complete rest lots of water, loads of sleep literally only getting up to go to the toilet or get more water and continually munching on fruit. It seems really effective and I tend to feel 90% better within 24 hours

Ration your remedies. That sounds mental. Hear me out.

The most important thing for recovery is sleep. If you take all your daily medication during the day, you'll have all your symptoms at night - less able to breathe, more likely to cough or be awake with pain, etc.

I find I recover more quickly if I force myself to suffer a bit more during the day, so I can have a full night's sleep.

Think we are/were in the same game. I had my jabs too. Not good at all.

Soggy Middle-Earth (Cumbria)

Women have a stronger immune response so exhibit less symptoms for certain things, supposedly the case can anyone comment ?.

Dandelions in spring are good for vit c pick the leaves wash them use as a lettuce substitute or as tea or root coffee, they were popular with American Indians.

Stinging nettles are amazing one of the best "s" out there for all sorts.

Supposedly the NHS is looking into all this to try and take the strain off prescribing so much pharmaceuticals which cost money when this is all free and natural.

Hedgerow Medicine is a good book if anyone is interested in this.

Above just my opinions.

Do NOT pay out for any branded medicines. AT ALL and that includes lemsips what ever flavour.

Water and sleep

If you MUST have a painkiller then cheap paracetamol or ibuprofen at a few pence a packet have EXACTLY the same ingredients and Newrowfuckingfen at X pounds per gulp .. !!!

Anything else suggested are just soothers which can be handy if you are battling away at work but if you are home........ then sleep. Just drink every time you wake up.

Colds cure themselves. No amount of money or hocus pocus makes it go quicker

If you're congested, I'd add pseudoephedrine to that. Like Sudafed (other brands/ non-brands are available) but behind the counter (because it's an ingredient in a certain illicit substance).

When I'm congested I take it only at night (or when I need to be at my best - a work presentation, for example), because it aids in uninterrupted restful sleep.

Lemsips are an absolute waste of money, same for any product that claims to be specifically for flu, is ‘Max’ of anything or ‘attacks pain’ through your forehead - it’s absolute BS. ‘Max’ crap at 5x cost often have less active ingredients than standard offerings. It’s a pharma fraud. Buy generic Aspirin, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen. Caffeine helps deliver relief faster. My go to is keeping clear of congestion with pseudoephedrine. I can shake a really bad cold faster by keeping nose and sinuses clear. Ask the pharmacist for it. Do not bother with Phenylephrine, the drug in common decongestants sold as oral pills and nasal sprays. It became the main ingredient in over the counter decongestants after a law required the older ingredient, pseudoephedrine, to be moved behind counters (because as we have all seen on ‘Breaking Bad’ it could be illegally processed into methamphetamine). Researchers have conducted more studies on phenylephrines that has shown that the oral formulation is clinically ineffective in reducing symptoms of congestion.

I don't find blackcurrant lemsips as satisfying as the lemon ones. More often available at discount rates though

I tend to be about rest and quiet, as my remedy basics. I may do a simple painkiller, if in pain, or a mix of painkillers, to spread the opportunity to treat it effectively.
