"Is there talk of this? Or are you just thinking they might in the future? Won’t bother me, I haven’t had one in 20 years The old system will be switched off in 2025 and landlines will use broadband to make calls. If you rely on a landline, you will still be able to make calls but the technology that powers them will be different" Oh, so people who use them won't see or feel any difference?

"You can still keep your landline, but instead of it connected to your phone box, you will have a box/dongle that plugs into your router, and your landline connects to that. It’s called digital voice. For majority they won’t keep landline or need digital voice. Main issues with digital voice is if the power goes out or internet issues etc then so does your landline so no calls to 999 if you needed to during outage. Impacts certain alarms or medical setups. If you upgrade to full fibre (fttp) you will lose landline unless you get digital voice with your package - note not all suppliers offer digital voice. Zen offer digital voice that includes calling landlines, abroad, and mobiles for few quid a month yet talk talk offer digital voice practically same cost as old prices and then plusnet don’t offer digital voice For the main it’s a good thing, but most people don’t like change " I wonder why 89 year olds get confused!

"For me it will as its cheaper for me to communicate abroad " That's a load of rubbish- the phone can still exist, they're just routing it through the internet?!

"We have a land-line and I'm paying for a land-line but have not had a phone plugged into it for a very long time so no it won't affect us.. We have a old fashioned phone but it done work it's just there as I love that old style lol.. Xx" I didn't realise Swansea had made the technological leap to landlines yet! Maybe I'm being harsh, course you did, otherwise how would you know 1972 is calling you!

"No, had ours disconnected as the only calls we received were from people trying to flog us, upvc glazing, fibre and power. If we still had elderly relatives I keep it for them to contact us. " It's the only reason we have ours. My dad calls us on it and one of my uncles.

"I have never used a landline in my life. Are those the types of phone that make that weird soul-destroying noise whenever you turn them on? If so, I've never used one. " No I don't think so are you thinking of dial up internet or the dial tone on a landline

"The free electricity from the phone line that I get, will stop and I'll now have to provide my own electricity, to use phone service. But there won't be compensation " That 50V supply was really useful.

"Landlines are not going. The copper network is being replaced with fibre-optic, so phone will plug into the router. " How will that work if you don't want a router?

"So I can have boardband and be able to work. I don't use the landlines for calls. I don't think the landlines will go completely, Openreach would go out of business, as they own the network" I use boardband .

"i only have incoming calls, but they need to improve wifi and mobile coverage - signal is soo poor" It's gonna get worse too as Theresa May limited Huawei technology telecoms to 30% in the UK.. They have almost all the patents to most of the current + future technology so during the switch over in the next few years , signal is going to get significantly worse yay

"Landlines are not going. The copper network is being replaced with fibre-optic, so phone will plug into the router. How will that work if you don't want a router?" It will be a fibre line ( FTTP, fibre to the premises) for high speed internet and phone line will work over VOIP ( voice over internet protocol). Great until there is a power outage. Where copper phone lines will always work , as take voltage (50v) from exchange. Speaking from experience as 20 yrs with Openreach and last 4 years building the fibre network
