"The people I make the strongest connections with on here are also the furthest away, and it's not fair and I don't like it, and I'm going to write a very stern letter to my MP demanding that the government abolish distance immediately." Yeah I feel that, maybe not super strong but it sucks that no one near me is remotely interested. Or just inactive for about a year.

I think if we just pass a unanimous bill to say a collective fuck you to the laws of physics and get rid of the concept of distance altogether so that everything is the same proximity as everything else that'd work fine, but we'll put the population reshuffle idea on the backburner as an alternative.

I'm just thinking the whole changing the laws of physics, might be a tad ambitious. I think we ought to set achievable goals.

"The people I make the strongest connections with on here are also the furthest away, and it's not fair and I don't like it, and I'm going to write a very stern letter to my MP demanding that the government abolish distance immediately." Absolutely relate to this. I'm struggling to meet people local to where I live and even a 100 mile radius (although Wales is technically only 50 miles away, it's more like 150 to drive to those same bits where there are people I vibe with). Otherwise everyone I reckon there'd be some legit chemistry with is either Midlands or North. Even the South East doesn't seem to be particularly well-stocked with my people. It's very hard to get the ball rolling when it's hundreds of miles, hours of driving and a substantial fuel/accommodation cost

I quite like the spontaneity of "ooh I've got the afternoon off let's hook up". Doesn't work long distance. I wouldn't do it for a relationship and certainly not for sex.

" To be fair I live a long way away from 90pc of my friends so I budget time/money every month to go see people at least every two weeks or I'd go bonkers. So I have a reasonable roaming range, 150 miles or so, that means I could include other people on the way there or back, or just go see them anyway. If I limited myself to the options available locally I'd be screwed. Practically everyone's either a uni student 24 or under, in a family situation with kids etc or an OAP. But being automatically passed over because I have to do that makes it harder still 😩 For sure understandable though, but we all have to play the hand we're dealt...

"Some of this I think is down to the fact its sometimes a little bit easier and safet to be more open and honest with those further away. Which can lead to better connections " I find great connections when, for whatever reason, sex isn't on the cards, so I think you have a good point there! If you're heading for sex then that's where the conversation invariably leads and it tends to get a bit dull over time. Outside of sex there are a million more interesting things to talk about and the conversations can be fantastic.

The closer they are the less effort they're likely to put in to get to know you because, well we could always just meet so what's the point of establishing a connection, right? I'm guessing that's how most think. It's certainly what I've experienced anyway.

Expectation could also be felt less on both parts . Interesting point .

" • But that's not really the true context of this thread, wouldn't you say? Like most people on here I've had my fair share of traversing up and down this fair isle and it's been worth it. However the thread is really about the frustrating imbalance and disproportionate outcomes for those who consistently make deep-rooted comnections with people who are so far away. Sometimes it would be 'nice' to experience similar outcomes with those who are within your locale. Quite often the best socials or dalliances are made spontaneously or on a whim. It can be a challenge doing that with those who are so geographically stretched.

"Yep, know all about this. Used to live in the south east. Where are most of the delectable options? In the south east. Now I live 4 hours away 🤦♀️ I have friends and family all over the country so am not opposed to travelling, I’ll happily tie in a fab visit with seeing others (not at the same time, let’s not mix those worlds ) the main trouble is it’s £100 a weekend in animal care before I’ve even thought about travel, accomodation, meals or drinks whilst out, a weekend away can easily be a few hundred pounds and as much as I’d love to have that spare for sexcapades, I also need to pay my bills so it just takes a bit of planning and patience but it’s not impossible." Camping in Aberdeenshire? I'll provide the beans and stove.

"Some of this I think is down to the fact its sometimes a little bit easier and safet to be more open and honest with those further away. Which can lead to better connections I've found that the local guys normally turn out to be dicks. Maybe you're onto something. The closer they are the less effort they're likely to put in to get to know you because, well we could always just meet so what's the point of establishing a connection, right? I'm guessing that's how most think. It's certainly what I've experienced anyway. " Even as a regular bloke wanting to make new platonic mates with other blokes in my area... They're all 'oi oi lads lads lads' bellends.
