The people I make the strongest connections with on here are also the furthest away, and it's not fair and I don't like it, and I'm going to write a very stern letter to my MP demanding that the government abolish distance immediately.

Yeah I feel that, maybe not super strong but it sucks that no one near me is remotely interested.

Or just inactive for about a year.

North West

Fab doesn't understand distance. Most of the country seems to be in the Midlands according to it. Though we're in the NW.

Speed = distance/time so by my reckoning, if you go REALLY slowly, the distance will be smaller.

Physics, innit

Funnily enough, one of my favourite people on here is a good 2.5hrs away and yet it seems to work.

I've also connected with people less than 1 hour away and we've struggled to pencil a day in the diary.

I think if we just pass a unanimous bill to say a collective fuck you to the laws of physics and get rid of the concept of distance altogether so that everything is the same proximity as everything else that'd work fine, but we'll put the population reshuffle idea on the backburner as an alternative.

I'm just thinking the whole changing the laws of physics, might be a tad ambitious. I think we ought to set achievable goals.

Absolutely relate to this. I'm struggling to meet people local to where I live and even a 100 mile radius (although Wales is technically only 50 miles away, it's more like 150 to drive to those same bits where there are people I vibe with).

Otherwise everyone I reckon there'd be some legit chemistry with is either Midlands or North. Even the South East doesn't seem to be particularly well-stocked with my people.

It's very hard to get the ball rolling when it's hundreds of miles, hours of driving and a substantial fuel/accommodation cost

Also many people don't have the time/ money to keep spending to make it work. I quite like the spontaneity of "ooh I've got the afternoon off let's hook up". Doesn't work long distance. I wouldn't do it for a relationship and certainly not for sex.

To be fair I live a long way away from 90pc of my friends so I budget time/money every month to go see people at least every two weeks or I'd go bonkers. So I have a reasonable roaming range, 150 miles or so, that means I could include other people on the way there or back, or just go see them anyway. If I limited myself to the options available locally I'd be screwed. Practically everyone's either a uni student 24 or under, in a family situation with kids etc or an OAP.

But being automatically passed over because I have to do that makes it harder still 😩 For sure understandable though, but we all have to play the hand we're dealt...

While there's a lot to be said for finding a good time on your doorstep, I rather like having more geographically remote lovers.

I like the travel and the hotels and the airbnbs and seeing new places, and I'm fortunate enough to be able to indulge myself when things click.

Whoever suggested some sort of tardis/teleport affair is a genius though, as there's a rather lovely person in Minnesota I'd like to be able to reach whenever the mood strikes either of us!

I eagerly await its launch🤞

I find great connections when, for whatever reason, sex isn't on the cards, so I think you have a good point there!

If you're heading for sex then that's where the conversation invariably leads and it tends to get a bit dull over time. Outside of sex there are a million more interesting things to talk about and the conversations can be fantastic.

I've found that the local guys normally turn out to be dicks. Maybe you're onto something. The closer they are the less effort they're likely to put in to get to know you because, well we could always just meet so what's the point of establishing a connection, right? I'm guessing that's how most think. It's certainly what I've experienced anyway.

We had a FWB who lived in Anglesey and made it work - meeting every month - 6 weeks and staying for 3/4 days at a time.

Finding the rough diamonds is what it’s all about.

This is our experience too - you have to chat more with people further afield and you build a deeper connection.

Local guys tend to think with their little brain rather than use their mind to connect.

I’d agree with this too , maybe men feel or appear less predatory from a distance too , and women feel less preyed on . Expectation could also be felt less on both parts .

Interesting point .

Covent Garden

Us errant Knights † ⚔️ of the Fab realm, forever in our conquests to seek love, lust, trysts and dalliances, are blighted by the spectre of the Fab Curse™.

We are lured, snared and entrapped by these licentiously unattainable creatures, who are so geographically displaced.

I often receive opportunistic messages from sultry sirens, from the emerald Land of Ire' to the thistled beauts from the Land of Scot', from the smouldering tongues of the Welsh dragons to the meddlesome maidens of Middle-England. London, however, is a blot on the landscape of orgasmic opportunities. It sucks. For there is fuck all here and fuck all on the horizon, lest one is hankering for the uninspired and mediocre.

OP, when you write to your MP please kindly ensure it's written on parchment paper and sealed in red wax, otherwise you won't be taken seriously.

.

If I really want to spend time with someone I make it happen.

And that was also the case whilst doing a postgrad in NE Scotland.

If it's just sex (and friendship for me)? I don't see what's wrong with localish people but then I do live relatively close to two big cities. Maybe I'm okay at making connections that don't have to be dull sex chat.

"A Person" I've made the strongest connection with isn't local to me. I'm happy to travel wherever to spend time with him.

BAOR or RAF? 😄 🤜🤛 I ‘bought’ an old left wheeler Beemer 7 series for a few slabs of Wobbly. I could get 160 litres of tax free fuel in jerry cans in that things boot that would get me to Yugoslavia at Autobahn speeds

Haha mine went for a slab of yellow handbag. We both got what we wanted out of the deal! I then upgraded to a pick up truck thinking I was The Fall Guy FFS.

Filling up in Wankum 😉

A whole Herfy 10 pack? It must have had all the Carlos Fandango go-faster bits on it 😄"

Haha no! The windscreen wiper motor broke driving down to watch England play France at the Parc De Princes. It was obviously pissing down! I had to put green string around the blades and my passenger had to pull the string left and right!

It was more like the Viz car Satsuma Casternet Fanny Magnet. Not!

"Do what we did.

Book an airbnb near to them, arrange a meet, spend a weekend up there.

Then you get a weekend away to go sightseeing and you get to have a meet too "

Did that during covid, it was good to unwind

"…

"A Person" I've made the strongest connection with isn't local to me. I'm happy to travel wherever to spend time with him.

This is exactly it. Distance is simoly an obstacle, not a reason to say no if I like someone.

Also. If someone is using distance as an excuse to not see you, did they realy want to anyway? "

Ah that's what it is. Thanks. I get it I'm an unattractive sack of potatoes no one wants to meet. I'll give up now then. Thanks.

I like that my regulars are generally far away otherwise I’d never get anything done !

If I wanted sex with the same person more than once a week I’d get a girlfriend

But that's not really the true context of this thread, wouldn't you say?

Like most people on here I've had my fair share of traversing up and down this fair isle and it's been worth it. However the thread is really about the frustrating imbalance and disproportionate outcomes for those who consistently make deep-rooted comnections with people who are so far away. Sometimes it would be 'nice' to experience similar outcomes with those who are within your locale. Quite often the best socials or dalliances are made spontaneously or on a whim. It can be a challenge doing that with those who are so geographically stretched.

I guess it depends what you want from that person. I’ve maintained 4-6 year relationships on here that include 4 hour drives and flights. If either of us really wanted more we would relocate for it

"we would relocate for it" — that would be a luxury for the few.

Those ankle tags tend to alarm beyond the 3 mile limit. What on earth have you done this time, Såff'?

I used to meet a guy many years ago that lived in Guernsey. I would fly over every other weekend. He then moved back to Blackpool so I’d go there and see him when I could.

Distance can be a pain but there are ways to work around it

Nero pretty much nailed my point on the head, but just to clarify myself as well, it's not an *obstacle* per se. I'm still doing the travel thing. I just dislike how much of an obstacle it *is* and saying how nice it would be if people were closer. :P

Yep, know all about this.

Used to live in the south east. Where are most of the delectable options? In the south east. Now I live 4 hours away 🤦‍♀️

I have friends and family all over the country so am not opposed to travelling, I’ll happily tie in a fab visit with seeing others (not at the same time, let’s not mix those worlds )

the main trouble is it’s £100 a weekend in animal care before I’ve even thought about travel, accomodation, meals or drinks whilst out, a weekend away can easily be a few hundred pounds and as much as I’d love to have that spare for sexcapades, I also need to pay my bills so it just takes a bit of planning and patience but it’s not impossible.

Camping in Aberdeenshire? I'll provide the beans and stove.

"Some of this I think is down to the fact its sometimes a little bit easier and safet to be more open and honest with those further away. Which can lead to better connections

Even as a regular bloke wanting to make new platonic mates with other blokes in my area... They're all 'oi oi lads lads lads' bellends.

That's not really my mate style either, tbh
