clothes your parents made you wear when you were a kid

having lost both parents recently ,me and my sisters have been going through old photo's etc,and theres me,in a chocolate brown pinafore dress with a bright yellow collar Harry Hill would be proud of ad grey plastic sandals,oh mum ,miss you loads but Pleeeeeeeeeze

What memories do you have of your parents dressing you badly

My sister and I were dressed in the same clothes but different colours and every outfit was finished off with knee high white socks which used to shrink in the wash! My whole childhood I was constantly hollered at to 'pull up your socks'

I suppose duffle coats were a blessing, after all those crimplene school skirts or trousers held no heat in them ..... unless you were on a slide ..... then you burst into flames.

Me, David and my brother were given brown anoraks for Christmas....( ok...it was 42 years ago).....

What still haunts me is my brother(1year older)had a plain one...mine had that fuckin awful braid design around the hood and down to the bottom of the zip.....I was mortified...and it still makes me cringe to this day....

Oh ..the fucking shame..and in Tottenham.....

My grandma and great auntie used to knit our ponchos and cardigans and flaming balaclava type hats. My mum made our dresses and skirts, now for some unknown reason she used to only make them long enough to cover our knickers lol.

Theres a photo of myself and my sister in matching pinifore dresses with floral blouses underneath, my fat chubby legs hanging out the bottom and two coloured suede shoes.

My "party" frock was long and brown at the bottom and cream at the top.

My son paid i dont know how much this year for a coat from super dry and its identical to the bloody duffel coats we had to wear, grey ones for school. But we did have a best coat and our "best" winter outfit was always a tartan kilt like skirt and blouse with lacey white socks.

I always had fat chubby legs even when i wasnt fat lol

My mum knitted or sewed most of our clothes, and I am grateful I was born a girl ....... at least I didn't have to wear the short sleeved safari suits she made for my dad and little brother to wear on our holidays. hahahahaaa!!!

I have laughed so much reading this. Thank you.

The only thing I can remember loathing is a pair of suede shorts my mum bought me in a jumble sale in the mid 70's. They didn't look too bad, but I went swimming in them and they stuck to me like wet chamois leathers and chaffed my thighs. All my friends took the piss for ages

My mam had an unkind habit of dressing me as a wee boy - until I was about 10 - and I mean short hair, trousers, waistcoats - the works - its a wonder I'm normal

I can remember kicking off in the local shop when some pish-scented, pandrop sucking, lavendered old dear "coochie-cooed" my cheeks, saying "what bonny dimples on a wee boy" - I got the hiding of my life for yelling "Im a GIRL" at the top of my voice lol

she was an expert seamstress in her day.

But they were all bloody flowered

We looked like little herbacious borders running around

I remember my snorkel coat, that coat saw some action! School trip to chessington zoo, got pelted with monkey poo, went to looe in cornwall, got out the car in the harbour and the seagulls turned it from blue to white in a matter of seconds
