Just seen the news that sadly, at 55 he took his own life. So many seem to be making this choice, such a sad ending. Nobody ever knows someone else's demons. Can anything be done to prevent others?

People can talk, people can care but often it's down to the person themselves to deal with their demons.

People who see me on a day to day basis but don't really know me would know how often I want to end it, same as many people. Demons are often invisible

Talk, whether it be down the pub or playing games online.

Talk and talk, laugh and reassure them that everything will be ok. And I say that having recovered from a dark time recently. Without my friends, I don’t think I’d of been here.

I think that unless you know there’s something wrong. It’s difficult to offer help. I know the from very painful personal experience. Finding my brother hanged, yet from the face of things, you’d think life was rosy.

As NHS MH care is disastrously underfunded and under staffed, I'd say no. It's all well and good encouraging people to talk, but they don't have access to the professionals needed to help them stay afloat, and often only get taken seriously once a suicide attempt has been made, despite asking (begging) for help for weeks/months/years prior to the event.

Im so sorry for your loss. I nearly lost my youngest on two occasions.

It was a few years ago, but the nightmares never go away. They’re always there, night after night.

As an acute issue, no. By the time a person gets to that point, it's often more a matter of luck if they survive. Intervention beyond psychiatric holds is unlikely to sway someone who's that far gone.

(I speak as someone who has been that far gone. It was luck that dragged me out)

As a broader issue, yes. Encouraging people to talk about their feelings rather than bottling them up. Normalising mental health treatment. Encouraging vulnerability - you can rely on one another. A social safety net. Access to services. These things will reduce the number of people who seek a permanent cure to their pain.

When I went for NHS help I was told it was just low self confidence. Fortunately through a charity I was put in touch with a therapist after an attempt. I currently see every few months when I need to.

Talking is good. Unfortunately the problem I have is that talking does not silence the demons, just tries to focus on ways to ignore them.

I feel so sorry for anyone who has dealt with suicide or attempted suicide and know it can take a long while to get over. One of my cousins ended his life a year and half ago.

It also makes me feel guilty knowing what it can do to people does not stop me thinking about it.

Sadly due to cuts people have to hit rock bottom to get help I've always seen a psychiatrist and can. Due to cuts they stopped my can and my mental health determined rapidly.

When I last took an overdose which was 2 years ago I was in hospital 10 days being treated.

When u come out I got all the help I possibly could for 18 months then they discharges me and I'm just left with a psychiatrist again.

If I'd not been discharged from seeing a can it wouldn't of come to that

It's very difficult. Looking at Thropes situation, I'm not sure anything could have been done. He attempted suicide in 2022 and he was in a mental health facility following that. He had a wife and two daughters, was no doubt loved dearly by them and his friends and family. Despite that, he felt people in his life where better off without him.

Having seen someone go through similar and take their life, there was a sense of relief that their suffering had finally ended.

It’s sad that anyone should feel so bad that they need to commit suicide.I read that he had been unfaithful to his wife quite a few times yet she stayed with him.Could he have felt so bad cheating on her so many times over the years that perhaps he was on the point of cheating on her again yet felt so bad that he had to commit suicide.
