I think whatever your political _iews are we have lost an amazing women. She may have screwed over a few people but show me a politician who hasn't. Maggie was a remarkable woman and she represented a stronger more united Britain in my opinion. We could do with a few more stronger willed people at the top.

Again this is just my opinion. And I think it should be more RIP Baroness Thatcher.

I for one thought she was brilliant.

How about showing a little respect for the loss of another human being life. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want people talking about one of your loved ones like this after they're gone...

Would you also show respect for saddam hussain etc what you need to realise is maggie was despised by millions for various matters which will never be forgiven. Yes sad for her family but i got rid of my rose tinted glasses in 1979.

Which is how hatred continues generation after generation.

I think these threads about Mrs T have shown clearly that there are people on here who are not as tolerant & friendly as they claim to be and I am glad they have shown their true colours these past two days as we wouldn't want to meet (and maybe have sex with) someone who is that unhinged.

I had great respect and admiration for Margaret Thatcher. She fought the Unions and won. Who among us remembers Arthur Scargill? She introduced the Poll Tax which I consider to be the fairest form of local taxation. I fail to understand how a family with 4 or 5 or even people living in the house pay the same Council Tax as a married couple. Surely they should pay more because they put a greater strain on our services. That's why the Community Tax was so fair.

She was loved by millions too, hence why she was voted in to power three times.

I didn't mourn Saddam's death just as I won't mourn Margaret Thatchers death but I also didn't celebrate it either. I found the images of him being killed very distasteful actually.

All this hatred towards an elderly lady who has not been involved in the running if the country for some time now seems a bit over the top to me. Surely the time to rejoice was when she lost the election and was no longer primeminister? That I could understand. If what she did was so terrible why have successive governments not simply reversed the policies?

I'm sorry Wishy but I have to say this....your recent posts on last weeks threads have shown you to have little empathy for the living in this country, so please don't preach today about others not being tolerant or friendly about the dead.

Tolerant of others and their personal circumstances is not something I would describe you as recently judging by your posts.

Well said Evie. I have read all the threads regarding the death of Baroness Thatcher and have found the sentiments _xpressed by some posters disgraceful.

To have _xpressed joy when she was defeated in election is understandable, and whilst I understand that many people will not feel any sadness about her death, to rejoice in her death is contemptible.

The last sentence says it all. Until Thatcher successive post war Labour Governments, and in opposition, had genuflected cravenly to the power of the Trade Union Barons..Tory Governments were equally weak, preferring to pacify and fudge. Thatcher faced up to, and delivered what everybody knew, that something had to be done. None of her reforms have been reversed.

Do most of us know the names of contemporary Trade Union leaders..No,I thought not, back in the 70's we knew them all.

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

It's been interesting to read the various threads on this topic. Many who rejoice that she's gone and many who say it is sad.

The most interesting observation, for me anyway, has been the very very emotive language used against those who are glad she's gone. People, in my opinion, can feel how they like. Because they feel that way does not make them 'vile', 'disgusting', 'sick', 'evil'.

I've also seen repeated comments about how she was a mother/grandmother, etc, and we should respect that. Sorry? No. Lots of women are. Lots of men are fathers and grandfathers. But unless they have done something to earn my respect I won't be told that I have to!

My very first post I said I was glad she was gone. I meant it. I also stated I had sympathy for her family. I meant that also. And I won't make apologies for how I think or feel. I feel absolutely no need to defend how I think or feel. And I am fully entitled to do so. Just as others are entitled to feel the way they do. I am not 'sick', 'disgusting' or 'evil'. But I am honest.

I loathed the woman. I'm hardly likely to grieve her passing.

You were a lot more vociferous than that in your condemnations of her yesterday. It sounds like your initial euphoria over her passing has ebbed somewhat and you feel a little embarrassed about how you reacted to it.

Just been reading about the aftermath of the parties last night celebrating her death.....looting, obstruction, violence and vandalism......hmmmm so is that how we should treat our country and fellow human beings! What an absolute joke and for me just proves that those who have to resort to violence, jumping on the bandwagon and resort to pathetic name calling clearly are the less intelligent.

No respect or value whatsoever for people who act like that.

That's what she requested but the state wants to honour her. Even the Labour Party agree she deserves a decent send off. A Ceremonial Funeral is one step down from a full state funeral. It is essentially the same thing but without the lying in state.

Only four other Prime Ministers have been given the same tribute: Churchill, The Duke of Wellington, Viscount Palmerston and William Gladstone.

I posted very little which was vociferous actually. My first post was as I described. I posted a lot of stuff about her economic policy and one or two jokes. None of which I retract. And I reiterate. I loathed the woman. In fact, with an absolute Passion. And I am very glad she's gone.

And, finally, I'm not going to get into any long discussion about it. I retract not one word of what I said. I apologise for not one word.

I was i Liverpool when i heard the news yesterday and sitting in Costa coffee when i heard myself saying out loud that it was really sad that she had died.

I don't want to get into any political arguments because that is just not me, but i thought she was a very inspirational lady. She was tough, out spoken and knew just how to put men in their place and quiver just by looking at them.

The man on the next table had also said that he was pleased that she had died and hoped that she was in hell and could tell that from my accent that i would be a "Thatcher lover" strange choice of words i know !!

You either love her or hate her and well you know where i stand on that one!!

In general there is a different attitude up north to her than in the home counties. I guess thats because she was a self interested woman who wanted to make her friends rich whilst oppress the working man. If people want to despise her then its their right to do so as she did so little to inspire millions more the opposite.

"I'm fascinated to know what she did to Scotland during her time. Please enlighten me!

I personally benefited. I am grateful for the opportunities that some of her policies helped me achieve. I am also saddened for people who suffered hardship.

Moving forward, all the best to the people who may be still struggling.

"

I think the people slagging her off should look around themseves at their houses if she hadnt given people the right to buy half of us would still be in council houses and, or on strike for somthing like no capachino in the poxy coffee machine the falkland islanders would be speaking spanish and the coal miners would all be millionairs ... Show a little respect for the greatest prime minister we ever had.. RiP The Iron Lady

"I'm fascinated to know what she did to Scotland during her time. Please enlighten me!its been said

poll tax

lost of jobs

took the working n middle class away make Scotland VERY POOR

she came to Scotland on a 2 day visit at a cup final i was at it

we sown her the red card at half time "

and gave us the right to buy our council houses. The shift from tenant to homeowner was one that would not have happened,

Most of her policies were not overturned when labour got in nor were all the privatised industries renationalised. So she could not have been all bad

and no before you launch I am not a Thatcherite and I am scottish...

I just respect that she was a mother and grandmother and she has passed...

There is a difference certainly between those who actually had to live through her policies (as adults) and those who were teens or children. Many, though not all on here, who were adults seem to not have their rose-tinted glasses on.

However, that said, each person is entitled to their own opinion. They should not be attacked for it on a personal level on here, as has happened. I certainly have not done so yet there have been posts stating that anyone who is pleased at her passing is 'sick', 'evil', etc, and that they are glad they know of such people as they wouldn't now want to meet them. That is really personal and not discussion. I too am glad those people would not want to meet me. I think we would have very little in common.

Moving on ...

I personally find people posting vitriolic criticism and vile comments about a human being passing away simply would be better off expending their energy & anger on something more productive than a dead woman.

"I for one thought she was brilliant.

The last sentence says it all. Until Thatcher successive post war Labour Governments, and in opposition, had genuflected cravenly to the power of the Trade Union Barons..Tory Governments were equally weak, preferring to pacify and fudge. Thatcher faced up to, and delivered what everybody knew, that something had to be done. None of her reforms have been reversed.

Do most of us know the names of contemporary Trade Union leaders..No,I thought not, back in the 70's we knew them all.

I think her actions went far further than union reform though, and had a deeper agenda."

That's as maybe, I'm not an apologist for Thatcher, many of her policies I did, and continue to, disagree with.

Nevertheless, the mindless, childish, hate directed at a Prime Minister who dared to think, and do, the unthinkable by taking on the Unions, is pathetic.

Ageing 80's class warrior students, and generational socialists aside, any grown up political analysis would have to acknowledge that Thatcher's battle with Trade Union power was a desperately necessary for the economic health of the country.

As I have taken off or stopped numerous threads since this one, please stop starting threads on Thatcher as I think everyone has now had their say.
