Hey All, I guess I was just curious about how the recent ‘events’ (and I’m using that term to be impartial but it’s closer and would be more apt to use the world violence) has impacted peoples plans.

So in my personal/work life, I usually work in London and was meant to be there today, but I’ve been supported in WFH. So it has affected that part of my life.

In my fab life, I was gonna go to a club but I’m 50/50 just in case it all kicks off. Maybe not in the club but on the way there or after.

I’m wondering has anyone been affected and in what way? X

We had notification that the office was still open but to wfh if possible and to not participate in counter protests

A charity i work with had to close their doors and have lost income which won't be recoverable. They are already om the brink of closure, so I'm sure this will tip the balance 😑

I've driven home tonight and gone past police officers in riot gear

I need to find that rant thread - atm i literally feel that every thing that is fucked up with the UK is due to middle aged white men

I did fortunately have a great experience today that restored a little faith, volunteering with around 20 white middle-aged plus men

There's little going on round here. One of the few benefits of living in the middle of nowhere.

And I agree with the 'middle aged white men' comment. The sad thing is these people are passing on their attitudes to their sons (and daughters). There's a whole new generation of chios on shoulders now that haven't a clue how to think cognitively because social media and their parents are their sole influences and they've never stepped out of those echo chambers.

I have several friends with businesses right at where one of the race-hate riots is planned for tonight. They've had to close for the day and board up their windows.

My friends wife, recently got her family reunification visa. She is from Pakistan, he similar to me was born here of Pakistani descent. She has only been here 4 months and while she studies for a medical licence, has passed her driving test and got employment with a housing association in Birmingham.

Yesterday as she drove in to her office, someone threw acid on her car.

It's not changed my plans significantly. I worked from home and that's not changed. The biggest change is that I was meant to be out for dinner tonight with friends, but we've postponed until the atmosphere is less febrile.

Mentally it's had a huge impact on me. I'm scared for friends' safety and that is making me feel helpless, depressed and extremely angry.

It hasn't changed anything for me currently and like someone else I'll be staying the next few days in a field in the middle of nowhere.

But something that this thread has just triggered I'm meant to be staying in a hotel next weekend which I was told last year was being used to house asylum seekers. I'm assuming that as it's accepting paying guests so to speak that it is no longer and thus wouldn't be a target especially being that it is in a city centre location.

For certain people, my name is long.and foreign sounding..(scary sounding, you could say.)

I normally give people a nickname version to call me when I meet them.

After a few months, I'll tell them my full name. I feel it's more digestible that way.

Years ago, a colleague I worked closely with for about a year saw my name on some paperwork and went.." Oh..I know your name now.".
