Has anyone had laser eye surgery and able to let me know your experience and how you found it please? I’ve noticed that there’s lasek and lasik to consider. Thanks for any help and information ☺️ xx

I have had eye surgery but not laser. My friend has passed surgery and has no regrets at all, she no longer needs contact lenses, it was relatively comfortable and recovery time was quick.

I (J) had laser eye surgery back in 2012/2013 - I can't remember exactly. From what I remember being told by my optician, you can't choose whether to get lasek or lasik, it depends on your certain circumstances but again, I could be remembering this incorrectly.

I always say it's the best few £1000 I've spent. I used to wear contact lenses, paying £20 a month and I used to get infections from time to time which was obviously not ideal.

In the last 10 years I've saved £2400 assuming lenses are still £20 per month so that has already paid for my surgery.

My eyes are still fantastic - I had an eye test at the start of this year and there was no concern from the optician.

The first 5 days after surgery are very painful - it feels like you have grit in your eye and you can't really see for the first 2 days. After that, it's life changing.

The only complaint I have, is that the last few years I feel that my eyes are quite sensitive to light. Not excessively but noticeable. Still worth it though.

Hope this helps.

Also to note, some places offer 0% finance so makes it even more worth it.

I had Lasik 10 years ago.

Very fast and completely pain free procedure, I didn't even realise it had been done as I thought they were still setting up until I said to let me know when it started!

I had 20/20 vision the very next day and I had zero pain or discomfort afterwards. You have to wear sexy goggles for bed for a little bit to protect your eyes and use eye drops but it's not a hassle.

I still have perfect vision and I have saved a fortune on glasses, prescription sunglasses and contact lenses.

You have LASIK or LASEK depending on your circumstances but LASIK is faster healing. LASEK is more suited for those with eye conditions or very thin cornea.

Life changing for me ☺️

Morning OP 👍🏽

I’m actually 5 weeks into having mine done but I opted for lens replacement however the surgery is very much the same.

It’s the weirdest sensation ever but I genuinely wish I had opted for it sooner.

I was petrified leading up to surgery but the team of consultants and the surgeon answered everything I wanted reassurance about and made me feel at ease.

For me the process took a couple of hours and I could see straight away, although blurry and gritty (sensation not actual grit) eyes it was brilliant and now my eyes have healed and I’ve not had the need for glasses since the surgery 👍🏽

Where did you get yours done for £1k?

I want to get mine done but the price is putting me off

I've been wearing contacts for 35 years with few problems. I've terrible eyesight but always been too nervous to risk it. Too many what ifs. Things have changed so much in that field but I feel like it's too late now since I need reading glasses as well. I wish I'd done it years ago

I put a few 1000 - meaning something like £2000-3000.

Let's say it was around £2500.

Some places are offering 0% finance for 10 months, some for 24 months. If you went for the 24 month deal that would be £104 a month.

I think that's a pretty good deal to never have to wear glasses or contact lenses again. Plus you save the cost of those things. As I said, after 10 years I've now saved the cost of the surgery.

So that’s the very reason I wanna do it! I think it’ll stop the need for varifocal etc etc but I’m trying to work out if that’s the case.

Yeah cataracts are different I think. They won’t vision correct they will just remove the cataracts I think.

I had laser eye surgery well over 20 years ago. Best decision I ever made. The two types of laser surgery are for long and short sighted - can’t remember which one is which though. It was quick and painless - however when the anaesthetic wore off it was like having severe grit in the eye, but if you keep your eyes shut, it doesn’t hurt. Mine got slightly over corrected so I can read stuff easily at quite some distance. Down sides: my eyes are sensitive to wind and do weep occasionally and I see halos around lights at night - which was strange at first, but used to it now. The up sides - sunglasses without prescription, no more glasses, no more contact lenses, being able to see clearly when waking up, playing sport easier, the biggest plus for me was laying in bed and watching Tv without my glasses pressing into my face when I rested my head on the pillow

I had mine done 18 years ago and had the more common lasik surgery-flap cut then laser behind and reset the flap. I hate hospitals, dentists etc but I done it. Took less than 10 mins. Couldnt feel a thing apart from pressure on the eye. Best money i have ever spent and know another 8 people that had it done after me. Pm me if you want to know anything

I had to have Lasek as my corneas were found to be too thin for the internal so the recovery to correct vision took weeks and the first couple of days were painful. I had it done in 2008 and it’s one of the best things I’ve done for myself in life. As I’m older now and use screens a lot I have to use reading glasses but my distance vision is amazing. Before surgery I couldn’t see a thing without glasses.

Yeah I’m wondering if they did it to me now, whether they’d be able to correct my long and short distance vision.

I was told I’m too old & it won’t help much!

But I might go for the optical lens replacement, it’s a permanent fix whereas laser only lasts 5-10 years and it can fix all types - short, long stigmatism

You didn’t get to pick as it depends on how impacted your eye sight is. I had mine laserd about 10 years ago and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I had to stop wearing contacts for about 6 months to correct my eye shape. The procedure is a little scary but it’s over and done with in a few mins and takes effect instantly. 100% recommend but make sure you go to a reputable place and one that’s not going to put profit above your health.

Hi OP, replying here and not private chat to keep it in the form space

Mine was 10 years ago so wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending a company but you should be able to do some search in the internet and see what people are saying.

For those that are worried it’s understandable, no surgery is without some risk but the technology has come such a long way. My surgery was done by an expert who was a pioneer back in the days when the corrective surgery was done with a scalpel!

I waited a long time until I was reassured that the Laser treatments were reliable and effective. It also gave me a 10 year history of the surgeries to be reassured about the long term issues. I consulted with friends in the medical profession dealing with military aviation laser eye surgery evaluations (having spent £3million training an RAF fast jet pilot they want to try and keep them when eyesight deteriorates). Also the Gulf wars were a major factor in Laser eye surgery development. Soldiers with glasses are a liability in dusty sandy environments and I saw queues of soldiers waiting to have their eyes lasered on an American military base. They were literally walking in and 10 Minutes later walking out. Advances in techniques and equipment has been so well tested that historical issues of dry eyes are very rare these days. Obviously choose a surgeon/ facility with a great reputation. I paid $3000 back in 2008 and had both done at the same time but in UK there were places doing LASIK for £750 a side. If you are really worried have one done, wait and then decide on the other.

Lens replacement stops cataracts and also removes it if already present 👍🏽
