Talking of pests, issue with rats at the moment. Trying humane things to just deter them, just put vinegar down in garden in pots and soaked in kitchen towel.

The other day I scattered extra hot chilli powder in the problematic areas

I tried to be humane with the fruit flys and have an adult conversation about all their antics, but they weren't having it.
