Southend on sea violence.

Reports are in showing very disturbing footage of youngsters battling with machetes and swords in Southend, which is a place by the seaside in Essex where people go who can’t afford to go to Marbs.

Is this the state of our younger generation now? Are we destined to a future of riots and murderous rampages by thugs, while the police stand and watch?

This is all over the news….

What did you think was going to happen to society when the snowflakes called for no punishment for kids in schools nor at home? 🤣🤣🤣

Just talk to them, tell them where they won't wrong, blah blah blah. Don't push me or I will have you done for assault. 🥱🥱🥱

There’s a difference between a no go zone and somewhere you’d rather not go however

Until they start giving people a minimum of 5 years for carrying a knife machete etc and make them do the 5 nothing will change,

To many do gooders. The animal that has just stabbed those poor kids should not be allowed to take another breath of air. Everyday now there's stabbings. Get em in the army for discipline. I would never want my grandkids to have to go in army but I dread to think on 10 20 or 30 tears time what it will be like.

The alternative to do gooders is do badders...? Bad doers?

Do you have any actual stats or evidence to back any of that up?

Do you know the ethos of the schools these kids went to? Wjat their backgrounds or home life is like?

How capitalism affects them and their environment growing up?

Or do we just not like snowflakes and will link thos to any bad event that happens

People said rock n roll was the work of the devil back in the 50s and preachers preached against it. You can't blame music for the criminal behaviour of people. I listened to "It's Raining Men" but didn't expect human beings to start landing in my lap.

Yeah. Music is really the issue. It's shite parenting and getting everything handed to them. Also a lot of people have moved here from warzones and should not be living in society until they've become demilitarised.

Capital punishment for everyone, no matter the crime. If an old granny forgets to buy a parking ticket - electric chair. If a radgy down the street is blasting their chav music and generally just a blight on society - lethal injection. If you murder, straight in the grinder. No ifs, no buts.

Haha ..in my modern suburbia, granny will take the burden of many a thing including parking her EV at a high cost. On the flip side, granny will recieve a tax funded execution so they have one less thing to worry about.

I think they should be forced into the army, or navy, plenty of good soldiers dying for nothing where those hoodlums should be put out into the warzone and see how brave they are then. Look at the SAS for example, a class unit made of renegades and it brought them back into shape

No indont think that would help at all, the amount of ex forces that have ptsd and severe mental health problems is unreal and they don't get much help with that.

Sending kids to fight in war zone isn't the answer I don't know what is though. Violence and crime is up all over the world and seems not much can be done

what I meant was, it might bring a bit of obedience and respect to themselves when they’re made to do something or their laptop in the MP prisons, they would not like the army which is why I think they should be punished and put in there

Putting them in a normal prison, they may as well be at home in their own bedroom with their PlayStation and TVs, prison isn’t punishment unless they get wound up in gangs inside there

Yes, it was a mindless riot caused by morons who invented a reason to riot. It was not local people protesting about something, it had no validity as a form of unrest at all because the premise for the riot was conspiracy theories and speculation.

The Southport riot was said to be organized by the far right morons who have jumped on a political bandwagon rather than giving the people of Southport time to come to terms with the attack.

Many of the people in the riot come into the resort to cause disorder from outside the area & could not give a shit about the deaths or the families left behind.

No prison spaces

Half a police force

As others have said the narrative that rap music or drill or grime or whatever you want to label it as is responsible is lazy and without evidence. The same has been said for so many other genres over the years.

Music reflects reality and people’s environments. If you grow up and live around struggle and violence that is often reflected in what and how you express. Is it an excuse? No. I live in one the second poorest borough in London with a horrendous crime rate and a deadly gang war between the north and the south of the borough.i was never attracted to or given access to that life due to choices taken by my parents, myself and those around me.

The Southend video was bad, but what was even more harrowing was the video from inside a taxi where a bloke was set upon while the taxi drive froze.

Gang violence, knife crime isn’t to be glorified or admired. Most people in it want no part of that life. It has many casualties, directly and indirectly.

Ok maybe I should have worded it that there’s also been a riot in Southport, doesn’t matter who it was, there is reports and video footage of a riot in Southport "

There was yes but as the other poster referred to and given four our of five arrested so far are not from Southport which confirms in part what the police knew was being organised by the far right/EDL whose only aim was to attack a mosque based upon lies on the internet ..

The people in Southport showed their true selves at the vigil and today when they came together to clear up and repair what the thugs did in attacking the mosque and the police..

"Capital punishment for everyone, no matter the crime. If an old granny forgets to buy a parking ticket - electric chair. If a radgy down the street is blasting their chav music and generally just a blight on society - lethal injection. If you murder, straight in the grinder. No ifs, no buts.

Surely the old granny won't have to pay to park her electric chair?

Haha ..in my modern suburbia, granny will take the burden of many a thing including parking her EV at a high cost. On the flip side, granny will recieve a tax funded execution so they have one less thing to worry about.

"I think they should be forced into the army, or navy, plenty of good soldiers dying for nothing where those hoodlums should be put out into the warzone and see how brave they are then.

Not according to the ONS data it's not, it's been declining for the last 30 years

A lot of ex forces don't go to get help cause it takes too long to get it and some don't want to as for help cause they think it makes them look weak so data means nothing

Was referring to rising crime claim"

Fair enough, not all crimes are reported

Eh?

You mean a regiment with strict selection criteria and processes including both physical and psychological?

Hardly renegades that needed bringing back into shape? 🤔🤦‍♂️😂😂 how was the SAS formed, people who wouldn’t listen to orders or do as they were told and the more up-to-date SAS programs on TV, the ones who train you to get through have even said they were tear ways and such when they were younger"

No, Southport didn't riot. A rent-a-mob came to Southport deliberately, and started a riot.

Still a riot though. Irrespective of motivation. You can’t deny that?

Yes, it was a mindless riot caused by morons who invented a reason to riot. It was not local people protesting about something, it had no validity as a form of unrest at all because the premise for the riot was conspiracy theories and speculation.

If there should be a death penalty, it should be for conspiracy theorists!!!

And no, I don't believe in the death penalty.

I know you don’t kc, but surely no way can any riot be validated?

Mindless violence by any faction is just that, mindless violence."

I dunno, I could understand a riot if some major miscarriage of justice happened and there was evidence of the State being complicit/covering up or if me fighting back in some way protected my family from aggression.

But almost never can such violence be justified, no.

I wanted to make clear that this was a pre planned riot and did not represent the community it happened in. It was rent-a-mob.

Maybe not the real army as such, I mean some kind of an army for convicts, where there made to do what they told or they spend their whole time in solitary, they just have it too easy, really for criminals, in some cases it’s not punishment it’s a home

People seem to conveniently forget that the past wasn't all rainbows and sprinkles. It's ridiculous for posters to tell us to remove our rose tinted specs, only to discount the entire IRA bombing history when discussing terrorism in the UK earlier, for example.

Too many people have this unrealistic view of the past.

What happens when you force people not used to following laws, thrust guns in their hands and send them to a war zone where there's no one to keep an eye on them. All those military massacres in Iraq, Afghanistan, but never mind at least the criminals are off our streets.

I’m sorry to break to you guys, but…this “aggressive” genre of music has been around for over 20 years. And compared to the seminal rap and hip hop albums, today ganstas sound like a parody.

There were issues and violence also before that music. The main cause being poverty, discrimination, poor access to schools, poor parenting.

But yeah, let’s reduce a very complex problem to “I don’t like today’s music”

By the way, looks like the idiots who caused the riot were a bunch of idiots from the EDL. Interesting their twat leader, the guy who goes under a different name than his real one, fled the country just the day before to avoid going to court. How curious, those snowflakey hardmen from the fringe of politics have a habit of hiding like chickens

A nice rock

"Who could have thought that the rise in popularity of a music genre that promotes criminal behaviour and gang culture could cause a problem?

People said rock n roll was the work of the devil back in the 50s and preachers preached against it. You can't blame music for the criminal behaviour of people. I listened to "It's Raining Men" but didn't expect human beings to start landing in my lap.

Not sure R&R openly promoted gang violence- i'm sure all the knife crime is just the tail end of the people who used to watch cartoons before they were banned for being a bad influence?

My point being that music and other aspects of popular culture have blamed for the poor or allegedly immoral behaviour of young people since forever. Drill music doesn't cause knife crime. Knife crime happened way before drill music existed.

Is knife crime worse in the last few years? How long has drill music been a thing? "

Since 2010ish... strangely knife crime fell until 2015ish...

It could be the re-emergence of Country music?

"I’m sorry to break to you guys, but…this “aggressive” genre of music has been around for over 20 years.

How curious, those snowflakey hardmen from the fringe of politics have a habit of hiding like chickens knives don't kill people, drillers do. "

Please tell me you’re joking. This sounds like the NRA in USA saying that weapons don’t kill, people do.

And before Eminem, it was method man, the wu tang clan, biggie and Tupac. Before that, it was rock music (it was considered satanic, nonetheless).

All nonsense. Excuses weak people make to run from their responsibilities or to avoid facing difficult situations and complex problems. It’s always someone/something else’s fault

Back then it wasn't about slin colour or religion - it was the clothes you wore or your hair cut.

The population is far bigger now, and the differences in society have also grow to match that... extrapolate all that if you can... I doubt it really comes down to skin colour or religion - just more differences between more people.

As someone with no children and no dog in the fight - no it isn't. There's always been division in every society to ever exist.

It's made worse by those who set to profit from creating these rifts in society. Probably the kind of person you vote for.

It's all very simple - make the peasants fight each other while you rob them blind. A tale as old as time.

And before then it was happening in dickensian London, think Oliver Twist.

there's a history of this sort of thing stretching back centuries. But some people have a habit of seeing the past through rose tinted spectacles. It's a human, but rather foolish way to misunderstand a situation.

Are you seriously suggesting that there has not been a massive increase in knife crime over the last 20 years?

All through my school years, not one pupil was knifed to death.

In the last two years, all within a 5 mile radius of where I live, there has been approximately 8 murders with knives or machetes. One of the murders was by a 12 year old boy.

What with societal change taking us out of the Dickensian era, the law of the land dealing with Teddy Boys, and Mods and Rockers, the tradition of fighting in the street with knives may have been lost forever, but - phew, we were able to import it to keep the old ways alive. It's so lovely, and I'm sure, a socialist's wet dream, to see immigrants adhering to good old British traditions. I wonder if they'll be taking part in the The Cooper's Hill Cheese-Rolling event, or joining a happy band of Morris dancers?

In fact, when you look at these sats and the rate of increase pre-covid, a fairly accurate estimate at the figures of 2024 would be projected at around 18500. Double than only 9 years previously.

That really isn't good.

The stats I shared went back to 2015, pre COVID (yes I noticed, thanks. My Grandad died of it). There are stats going back further and for wider areas of the UK than just London. I'm not disagreeing that knife crime has increased in recent years but it's also peaked higher before now and may have been higher at other points in the past. I don't know because I've not looked at the stats.

Nowadays, it can seem like something is happening with greater frequency due to the 24/7 instant news and social media sharing and so it has greater visibility.

"I'm assuming all the Teddy boy knifings in the 50s were committed by the evil immigrants too?

There has always been a violent section of society. The reason we see more these days from non-whites than we used to is because there are more non-whites than there used to be. Not because non-whites are more violent than whites.

Things what happens when people want to erase inconvenient truths from history - as is the current woke trend. We can’t learn from mistakes if we brush them under the social carpet. Sl8v3ry, wars, racism, murderers etc. K (as an example, I had to alter one word!! )

I'm sorry the current woke trend?

I know British people who went ti school in the 80s and 90s who where bearly thought any history about the British presence on the Island of Ireland.

Not learning about and from the past isn't a new woke trend.

"

Music influences people in many different ways. Some makes them happy and invigorated. Some calm and at peace and some aggressive and may other feelings too. At no point in any past music have we had such aggressive lyrics and "movement". Im sure some scientists will be along soon to deny any link between music and behaviour and some will be along to form that link. Common sense does not seem to exist any more until we are told what we can see by some reliable source.

Whatever happened in the past, it can not be denied that there is a very high knife crime now. It seems to be that some people either deny this is the case or that it happened also in the past so it should be acceptable now. To fix a problem you have to first see the problem.

Knife crime has been present for a long long time,I think the difference today is people are no longer afraid of the consequences of getting caught and carrying a knife is as much a status symbol as a pair of Nike trainers.

I personally witnessed a stabbing a couple of weeks ago the ease and lack of hesitation the attacker used was terrifying, he'd obviously done it before.

I wouldn't be a police officer in this current climate for even 50k a year.

"Music influences people in many different ways.

I agree you have to identify a problem to fix it...

Focusing on a type of music, which I would argue is a very very small % of the overall attitude and behaviour of any one individual, is not in my option a very efficient way of identifying the overall problem.

Something is going very very wrong in our current society but I would point to the factors like minimum wages being below reasonable living wage, the gap between the 1% and the rest growing ever wider, the rise of social media, the lack of strong moral leaders in the countries that used to be beacons of justice (this one is arguable and is probably more to do with the veil being lifted) among many others, as much much greater factors than the music someone listens to.

"Reports are in showing very disturbing footage of youngsters battling with machetes and swords in Southend, which is a place by the seaside in Essex where people go who can’t afford to go to Marbs.

Is this the state of our younger generation now? Are we destined to a future of riots and murderous rampages by thugs, while the police stand and watch?

This is all over the news….This is what comes from not smacking your children when they are out of order and giving them a smiley face sticker .

Is it, though?"

Oh yes no discipline kids are rude to adults ,no sense of respect for others or themselves that's how it starts ,I saw a picture on the front page of the news these people actually caught the train to take part ,they all looked violent, they had hard faces and clenched fists some even wore masks and hoodies ,the ring leaders mind didn't wear masks ,destined for another visit behind bars .Career thugs .You are the product of your upbringing. Trouble with today we all have to zip it ,be politically correct but respect is an important discipline and very much overlooked in today's society ,many of us are I give respect where respect is due .

A nice rock

Discipline and having a well structured positive upbringing is not the same as being smacked as a child. Let's be very clear about that. Hitting children does not equal well adjusted respectful adults

Irrespective of whether I was hit when a child I have respect I'm not violent and don't condone violence this kind of thuggery is common place at football matches ,perhaps not the machetes and swords ,it all stems from discipline growing up ,their isn't any .Taking the childs telephone off them ,grounding them ,giving them smiley face rewards or sad face punishments doesn't work .

You however it would appear have formed an opinion of me already without knowing anything about me just a comment about violence and violent people, it says more about you than words can say .

Stop babbling, kiddo. You are the one who formed a random opinion.

I am not violent and I wasn’t smacked as a child. Your assumption makes no sense and I’m here to call it for what it is

Yep agree with all of that. It is multi faceted and complex. It's not possible to address all and quickly. But unless a start is made it won't change. Add to this the apparent increase in aggressive attitudes of young men toward women... And casual violence

Not in any way justifying it but every time those, what I would call youngsters which is literally sadly from those just in double figures to late teens) who are asked why say it's to feel safe because someone else is carrying..

That we've got to such a point is a problem societally of course with many issues within the why and the how does society deal with it..

Just talk to them, tell them where they won't wrong, blah blah blah. Don't push me or I will have you done for assault. 🥱🥱🥱

I’m enjoying good old fashioned conservative values , there’s no crime here, no unemployment or homelessness everyone is safe & happy. You can’t choose to identify as a fluffy but I think it’s a small price to pay"

I’m so glad I’ve missed the last few days on here. Bigotry seems to be rife on this platform and quite frankly the mods and site owners need to do something about it.

It's a little like the American justification for gun carrying isn't it? He's got one.. So if I've got two that makes us all safer.

Seen the rise of knife and gun crime become more common from the late eighties in South London to a point where it simply wasn't news particularly the latter..
