My son and his ex girlfriend lived there for 6 months, aside from doing things they would do here ie lock bicycle in the garden shed, it was perfectly safe and they made some great friends in the next door neighbours

And I am sure other cities have their troubles too so I think the comment is rubbish

North of Manchester

You must be on another planet, Liverpool has culture, shopping, and some brilliant parks.

Yes fights break out anywhere when a big event has happened as so many cultures all in one place.

Have you ever been out at night in Manchester, Bolton, even Southampton.

Sometimes the Liverpudlian accent can make them seem harsh and not friendly, but Northeners are more friendly than Southeners, and how can I say that I moved north from Southampton.

Liverpool,a fabulous city, you get trouble everywhere on a weekend out, newcastle, blackpool etc, unfortunately just part of todays binge culture.try Kendal in the lake district, instead of binge drinkers spoiling your weekend ,you can get a cup of earl grey and a scone .

stag/hen do's, its a great tourist destination due to the weather, plus also its a big town and people from the local areas flock to it because it has variety of bars/clubs for nightlife.

Where i live it all closes at midnight.

Torquay on a Friday and Saturday night is as 'scary' as anywhere else in the country with bars and clubs....

Any town or city with late night clubs and bars will attract trouble, it's a national disease.

Having been to Liverpool I have to disagree. You probably experienced it on a bad night full of pissed up race goers from around the country. When I went the locals were so friendly, they would literally strike a convo out of thin air with a total stranger.

As for fights I seem a few but nothing different from nights out I've had in Newcastle, Durham, York, Manchester, Edinburgh and no where near as bad as nights out I've had in Middlesbrough, stockton Plymouth and Newquay

I live in Cornwall. Plymouth is awful, stay away from newquay during the summer months, full of emmits having sex everywhere and causing fights and using it as a general litter bin. Lol. Winter months it's lovely. Stayed in Liverpool for a week to visit friends with my then young family and even during the day, we felt threatened and nervous. People seemed angry and rude. Will never go back. But you find that everywhere at times. It's just what your used to.

The Town by The Cross

Consider.

A scouser came across someone from Warrington they were about to punch each others lights out when a Mancunian came over.

The scouser and the bloke from Warrington paired up ( cos they are from outside Manc ) and were about to punch the fooking daylights out of him when a Brummy turned up.

The Scouser, Warrington Bloke and Manc got in a group and warned the Brummy to back off cos they were NORTHERNERS and they'd punch his fucking lights out n leave him for dead. All of a sudden Torbay's Finest rolled up ( Looking dog rough after a day at the races and on the piss mind )

The Scouser, Warrington Bloke and Manc and Brummy turned on him saying, ' we can't stand your accent , your town or anyone from south of Watford! You're goiugn to get it.... From out of nowhere a FRENCH bloke shouted Zees Ees Ze Worst Cooking in Ze world....

The Scouser, Warrington Bloke , Manc, Brummy and Torbay's Finest turned to the French man telling him to back off cos they are BRITISH and proud of it.

Every large town/city has good and points and its fair share of idiots (even Torbay). I find it a tad childish to decry the whole (not hole lol) on the basis of one bad experience (a bit like swinging really).

Everywhere has good and bad points. I'm from Southampton but have lived in Liverpool for 3 years and I can honestly say I've never felt threatened.

I find the locals really friendly and I love living here.

Many scousers avoid the city centre after the national because of all the pissed up tourists (and yes a few pissed up scousers) but on an average night out its generally pretty friendly.

You get fights etc wherever you go on a night out but you can't judge a whole city based on one night out and particularly one after a major event

Have you thought it might have been the many thousands of visitors that descended in Liverpool at the weekend who were causing mayhem?

either way, we went into town on Saturday for a meal and saw two fights that had to be broken up by police and bouncers....I am guessing it happens everywhere when people drink too much.

Most city centres at night time can appear to be scary places, especially if you are unfamiliar with them.

Also remember, you were in the city after a major sporting event when not only do you have the usual mix of weekend revellers but also many thousands of visitors who are in high spirits and have probably been on the ale since mid morning.

Your comments have little foundation and display a great deal of ignorance on your part.

I have no need to impress anyone - I was demonstrating a little known and underused phenomenon called 'common sense'

But why let that get in the way of biased and unfounded personal judgement ?

It sounds like you may be suffering from a case of 'I have made my mind up. Please don't confuse me with the facts'

Popular drinking areas nationwide have this element. Personally we won't go concert square or Matthew st. There are some cracking bars elsewhere.

Again a fairly hostile atmosphere, I wasn't d*unk, 4 / 5 pints over 6 hours.

The walk back to get the coach wasn't pleasant. People (not just us) were getting a lot of grief from local gangs of lads.

I'm sure someone will tell me they're lovely folk that only wanted to welcome us to the area with a slap on the back and a warm handshake.

The very small part of Liverpool I saw was horrible.

Anyone that lives near Liverpool prison can't tell me its a nice place.

Aren't whole families slain in country retreats.... small town mentality in those places methinks. its not my fault I live in a nice part of the country

The very small part of Liverpool I saw was horrible.

Anyone that lives near Liverpool prison can't tell me its a nice place.

The 5 or 6 bars we went were ok but a little rough and the threat of something happening was always there.

That is my opinion. I'm sure I'm not the only person that thinks like this.

"

Liverpool Prison is called WALTON this is nowhere near Aintree Racecourse.

No one socialised by WALTON prison. There's no bars for a start.

You weren't anywhere near Liverpool to be fair.

Aintree is about ten mins from me in a car. It's not Liverpool either it's a suburb

The city is uhmmmm in town.

"Most city centres at night time can appear to be scary places, especially if you are unfamiliar with them.

Also remember, you were in the city after a major sporting event when not only do you have the usual mix of weekend revellers but also many thousands of visitors who are in high spirits and have probably been on the ale since mid morning.

Your comments have little foundation and display a great deal of ignorance on your part.my comments have a lot of foundation and a total lack of ignorance as it it is my opinion due to how I felt and what I witnessed. you're trying to hard to impress. Its not worked. I didn't like Liverpool. Others do. So Fucking what? And I hated the national........"

Well you started a thread describing Liverpool as the sacriest place on earth, then you removed your initial post and now your geeting upset because people defend the city.

I've often been out to Liverpool on a Friday or Saturday night mainly around Matthew Street and while I wouldn't pretend I've never seen any trouble, I would say it's pretty rare and is normally quickly quelled by a combination of Police and Doormen.

Liverpool to me is a great city, with most of it's trouble spots, particularly it's gun crime away from the city centre. It would be easy to pick on many other city centres throughout the UK on a Saturday night, but whats the point because most of them are pretty good places with the odd incident happening.

If you didn't like Liverpool, personally I'm sad to read that but, in the wider scheme of things it's unlikely that the many good things that could be listed would change your opinion. As for hating the National, well that sounds like your throwing your rattle out of your pram, as unless you don't like horse racing I truely have no idea why you could use such a term to describe an event which did exactly what it's billed to do in fabulous sunny weather with many millions of people either there or watching on TV.

Being from the south coast originally I have to disagree. They both have good and bad points.

You just had one bad experience, it may be enough to put you off returning and that's fine but it doesn't make Liverpool the 'scariest place in the world'

Fights break out in every town and city, usually drink related, but that's a way of life im afraid

I live in a nice part of Oldham, only 2 miles from the town centre, a town once dubbed by a local MP as the 'Wild West' at weekend, but i wouldnt call it scary.

you never saw Crosby, that is a nice part of Merseyside, then we have Sefton area, Knowsley, Maghull (might be a bit far out) all these areas are NICE places of Merseyside.

Torbay covers a wide area of South Devon to be fair.....and down this way many burglaries are 'Away Day' crimes.

These are crimes committed by people that drive up and down the major road(s) in the area hitting the small towns and villages....most coming down from Bristol or up from Plymouth.

In a sence, thats exactly what this thread has been about. 1 man has what he describes as a bad experience in Liverpool, which actually turned out to be some distance from the city centre and thus described Liverpool as being the scariest place on earth, followed by various derogatory remarks.

Granny Crumpet places some facts up, and rightly you defend your area. It just shows how misguided the OP was.

My other half travels all over the country every week with his work in outside broadcasting, he regularly visits Liverpool and has never had problems there.

They did have vans and cars vandalised in Manchester on one occasion last year, but by far the worse area they frequent as regards vandalism and instances of assault on staff is Swansea.....which is a bit random.

"Why on earth would you say that? Complete and utter bollocks

I agree but I am from Liverpool also lol. Liverpool is very friendly city. it was rough as toast, unfriendly and the atmosphere was awful.

Saw 6 fights break out in the space of 3 hours 4 in Matthew street bars and 2 more in concert square. try a night out in Glasgow or even blackpool [you prat]

One night does not make it evidence enough to say its the scariest place in the world I'm not the official spokesman for British tourist board or anything.........I'm just saying the weekend wasn't very nice. "

Who knows

The OP has definately put his size 9`s in it and is digging a hole for himself faster that a lorry load of navvies.

Yep its complete bollux, what he saw was probably the aftermath of a sporting event which can bring out champagne s, half pint heros and female schreechies. Nothing different to any big race meeting really.

Lived in Liverpool back in the early 80`s just after the riots in L8 (Tocky) and will say now as I did then... the people from there are stars, they are well friendly and you couldnt wish to meet better folks on a night out

Have done doors and event security for a number of years in various places and some of the worst kick offs I have seen have been at the "upmarket" hotels eg Hilton etc, ESPECIALLY after race meetings

Six fights in 3 hours in a city centre the size of Liverpool is probably no worse than any other big city such as Manchester, Brum, Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, Newcastle, Durham to name but a few, and you will probably find it is handbags at 5 paces rather than "Custer`s Last Stand" or "Gunfight at the OK Coral"

It may be that the "finest specimen" from that genteel quaint southern holiday village should perhaps stay down south and not venture up north where the nightime economy is more PG rated...just a thought...

Torquay

As I have already said....no different from any other city or large town in the UK on a Saturday night.

To suggest otherwise is pretty foolish.....

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

from my experience as a single female football fan travelling to support liverpool at anfield - I have to say what utter nonsense. I've always felt safe in Liverpool, and had some great nights out there after the football, and at other times too.

I think its a case of you get back what you put out - so if you have the attitude that its rough and going to be awful, then thats what you see. Never judge a book by its cover. (But then I've lived in some really rough areas as a single female and never felt bothered)

You could apply this scenario to any town/city centre in the country....Cardiff city centre on a Saturday night can be like Beirut in it's heyday.
