I like the idea of a singular favourite.

The reality is different. So Lily Vanilli at Halloween time. Gail's if I'm embracing my inner basic bitch. Devonshire Bakery for their sourdough. Greenhalghs for crumpet loaf. Fitzbillies for their buns. St John Bakery for their loaves.

I'll stop there.

I've never even heard of a single one already mentioned. We don't really have bakery franchises over here apart from Greggs and I've never set foot in one.

My favourite has to be the bespoke one I work for, mainly because we cater for those who require dairy or gluten free options or those who require vegan alternatives.

Chatwins is lovely, there's a branch close to me. In Nantwich there's also Ginger and Pickles - their banana bread is so, so good.

Brought lots of goodies from here when I lived in Guildford."

I go out of my way to this bakery. The food is high quality, fresh bread they make on the premises as well as pizza and the cakes are superb.

I recommend them in December as the Xmas food is really good. Pre order to avoid disappointment

I used to be a store manager in chatwins. If anyone asked for an egg it made me hate them. And I put loads of meat on the carvery baps because I hated making them and I wanted to run out quicker

I've never heard of the ones named either. The younger me would have said Tattersalls in Rochdale

There was one in Paris I visited last year, every morning of the holiday.

The cakes, the pastry's, the everything.

It was pure intoxication of the most buttery and sweetly delightful kind.

Sweet tooth - very small independent, he bakes all his goods at home.

Heidi's patisserie were always good, think they've all closed down now

There’s a small artisanal boutique bakers round my neck of the woods that goes by the name ‘Greggs’, not sure if you’ll have heard of it.

They do the most wonderful delicate savoury pastries known as ‘sausage rolls’ that are absolutely to die for.

Wellbread in Renfrew. Their cherry bakewells and iced ginger squares are huge.

A Greggs opened across the road in 2010 and ever since they have had a banner outside that reads "The only REAL bakers in Renfrew. Fresh every day, nothing from a factory outlet."

I won't name my favourite as it's literally 3 minutes from my front door, but beyond that:

Toad in Peckham is amazing. Fabrique does excellent cinnamon buns, as does Bageriet. And Konditor does the best carrot cake!
