Wolverhampton

Are the supposed top end supermarkets such as M&S or Waitrose worth the price difference?

Is the quality of the food that much better?

Do you use them if you’re cooking a “special meal such as date night or anniversary?

My thoughts are they are not worth the price minus the chocolate covered custard creams…love them

For some things they are. However Aldi and Lidl beat them hands down for things like cheese, dark chocolate and yogurt.

If you know how to shop, you can get your groceries at either Waitrose or M&S for the same price and sometimes even less than more mainstream supermarkets. I prefer M&S, but I shop where I am closer to and that is Sainsbury’s.

M&S and Waitrose both do food items now that are no different in price to the standard supermarkets. Not all of it is expensive.

I rarely look at the biscuit aisle in Marks. Thanks for the heads up, I'm definitely going to try them 😋

We went into Waitrose recently, Rubik was having a bit of a panic as he was all "but it's expensive in here!" I told him to relax! Somethings (especially the stuff we buy) is the same price as other supermarkets.

But in answer to your question, if we are having a date night at home and cooking, we will probably go to Iceland and see what deals they have.

I'm not sure there are many people who could genuinely tell which supermarket the ingredients of a meal they were eating had come from. I mean, could you really tell the difference between a piece of Aldi carrot and a piece of M&S carrot?!

Buy a packet of Custard Creams, Buy a large bar of your favourite chocolate,

Break up the chocolate into small pieces put into a bowl, place in microwave until melted.

Remove from microwave, dip custard creams into molten chocolate, place on to plate for the chocolate to harden and hey ho you have your chocolate custard creams.

I have a pack of custard creams and tomorrow will buy a large bar of Cadbury's Bournville chocolate and make a batch of dark chocolate creams all for a couple of £.

There are a very few select things I would get at M&S which are better...

One favourite is their Yum-Yums (sugar coated pastry). Everywhere else, they are sweaty and more like syrup coated rather than the firm crisp dry ones from M&S.

Waitrose will reduce harder than any other supermarket as the demand for reduced stuff is lower. If you find when your local waitrose does its reductions, like 7pm and go then, as long as you don't mind freezing meat and fish, it will be in that moment, by far the cheapest supermarket. I've had rib eye steaks for 20p from there as they were going "out of date" the next day

Waitrose, absolutely not, unless you're a connoisseur of cheese/meat

Most of the food is exactly the same as what they sell in Tesco, just with less variety and double the price.

M&S do make a fine chicken & salad sandwich I must say. The chicken is succulent 👌🏼

It all depends which products you choose. Some are better some are pitched at the same level as other supermarkets. But generally they use better ingredients in their own brand products.

And yes… this is from a position of experience 👍🏻

I find the posh supermarkets food to be pretentiously expensive, but taste the same, sometimes worse than other supermarkets.

Is that 50p for a biscuit then? They better damn well be the best biscuits in the world at 50p each!

I was recently given a gift of dunking biscuits from hotel Chocolat. Cost £10 odd for a box of around 8 completely flavourless biscuits.

Frankly a pack of ordinary custard creams would have been better. I don't know why some companies think it's ok to add branding and packaging to a crap product. The key should be in the taste.
