What accents do you like and which do you dislike / struggle to understand?

I love the Edinburgh accent and struggle with the Liverpudlian accent.

The thing is about accents is that we can't help where we are born and we inherit the accent as soon as we learn to speak.. While I prefer some accents I never put accents down as we all have to come from somewhere...

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

Love west coast scottish (but not glaswegian - its too harsh sounding) and irish does it for me... and something about a posh accent works, and I adore french... makes me weak at the knees!

I don't think I've got much of an accent (thankfully as the local one here is bloody awful) I've got kinda a bastardised accent with a touch of everywhere I've ever lived mixed in

Partially true.

Until I was 15 I had a very strong Polish accent even though I was born here and spoke perfect English. I spoke Polish at home. I worked incredibly hard to loose it ready for when I joined the army as I didn't want to be mocked.

There is nothing wrong with having an accent, but that doesn't mean that some don't 'grate' on the ear!

Many moons ago i was in a pub in Liverpool (The Philharmonic). I bought a round of drinks and asked young lady 5 times how much it came to, in the end i just gave her a £20 note as i new it would cover it.

I'm not ashamed in the least, far from it. I just wanted to fit in without issues or having to explain that I was as English as anyone else.

I'm actually the 3rd generation to be born in this country, the only reason for the accent was we spoke Polish at home (and still do at my parents) because we wanted to preserve that aspect of the family. It's also come in VERY handy over the last few years...lol

Now I will have to disagree with that statement to a certain degree, it doesn't matter where you were born it matters how you were brought up!

I was born into the army and moved all over the country as well as abroad, when I was a lot younger and living in London, I had such a cockney accent and have gone through lots of different one's along the way, but I've been here for 22 years now and I do not have an Aberdonian accent at all, all the Scottish can hear is English and all the English can hear is Scottish, so I never know what I sound like

I pick up accents really quick I was born in Teesside and moved to Cornwall as a child and developed a strong Cornish accent. I then moved back to Teesside and totally lost the Cornish one, I lived in Australia for a year and was living with an Aussie girl and started to develop an Aussie accent
