How do you like your social?

Wherever

For me, I like busy places. I’ve been known for meeting in ALL busy places. Busy coffee shops. Art galleries. Chinatown. Busy beach. Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Camden. Oxford Street. You name it, the busier the better. Most of them were a great success.

Made me wonder. How about you?

I always ensure it's in a public place and that they're able to leave under their own steam if they want to go at any point. Last time I met up with someone for the first time I lined it up with bus times because she doesn't drive, so that if she wasn't feeling it she wouldn't be counting on me to drive her somewhere. Providing as much reassurance of safety as possible is important to me.

Yes. Safety is paramount. I do that too, I don’t drive so always have a plan B and route planned.

Always a public place. I don't mind if it's busy or quiet but it has to be someplace we can have conversation without having to shout.

That's what puts me off so many group socials. The environment isn't very social.

I prefer a bar somewhere central. A nice quiet and cosy corner where you can talk without being overheard and maybe have a few subtle touches or kisses without being noticed.

I have done coffee shops but find they don’t really make for a sexy atmosphere.

In a Caffé Nero™, a city branch, because they often have high vaulted ceilings; an art gallery or a museum where we can walk and talk at length and get to know each other, less focused on the objet d'art or the relics but more immersed in each other. The artworks always serve splendidly for those comfortable silences and the interludes.

Don't mind where, as long it's quiet enough to chat but busy enough to not feel overheard.

If I'm meeting at the weekend (which I normally am) I have found that meeting in a pub of an evening can be misconstrued, so tend to play it safe with coffee shops these days.

I had a great social a couple of months ago in the cafe at a museum. We had coffee and then went to see the show at the planetarium. It was a very happy afternoon!

Places we've had social meets ranging from a Tesco cafe through to a McDonalds on the A55.

These places tend to make it a little awkward to talk about anything sexual but we use it to gauge our meets personality and Rach's comfortability with him. Sex talk can always take place later over the phone if all party's are happy after the meet.

I have ADHD and misophonia, so if it's too busy I can struggle to hear what is being said and pay attention without hearing every single other conversation in the place at the same time. 😅

It's like having multiple voices in your head, all yapping and it's an information overload.

I'd rather be able to learn about the person I'm seeing, than become mentally burned out within the first half hour lol.

An averagely busy sort of place is okay, but the noisier it gets, the more difficult it is for me.

I have had some great socials in unexpected places. A ferry could've been horrendous (no escape!) but was actually amazing, a museum was great (we may not have taken things further but we did discuss favourite dinosaurs and that doesn't happen often enough), the cafe of a theatre was brilliant for people-watching, christmas markets were great for the atmosphere.

Most of the time it's a coffee shop or a pub though.

Usually over lunch …

It’s relaxed , it’s a nice way to see if there is any magnetism - compatibility ..

I ask for a table with either privacy or a view or better with both.

Then you can see how things progress and if successful, plan a meet.

Sometimes in a restaurant however the tables can be too near together which may prevent some personal details coming out but it’s generally a nice environment.

In public and with escape routes.

We have quite enjoyed restaurant and bar socials, but I dislike sensing an unspoken pressure to progress towards playing that evening. I think it may be influenced by alcohol.

I much prefer the more relaxed (and alcohol free environment) socials such as coffee & cake or a stroll along the beach front. With zero pressure and then I can look forward to arranging a meet in the near future.
