Should Social Services employ Physiologists to watch Jeremy Kyle?

Why the fuck I typed 'Physiologists' is beyond me.... I blame a late night and a lot of drinking

I've double checked it now, so here goes again.....

All of the mainstream television channels seem to have brought Psychologists in to comment on Mr Philpot’s behaviour…. especially his JK appearance…. and they have all come to the same conclusion.

Now I don’t believe you need to have a doctorate in psychology to spot the narcissistic traits they have spoken about:

- His predominant self-focus

- His need to brag persistently, though often subtly, about his sexual prowess

- The exaggeration of his success, such as how he is ’living every man’s dream’

- The arrogant body language

- His immodest references to getting what he wants from his women

- The need to elevate his status, expecting others to admire him and dismissing the worth of those who do not

- Problems in sustaining satisfying traditional relationships

Now there’s nothing wrong with a bit of self- lovin’, we can all be a little narcissistic at times, but when the behaviour goes beyond a healthy level of narcissism and indicates narcissistic personality disorder (NPD)…. Does society have a responsibility to keep an eye on the situation?

I don’t believe anyone could have predicted the sad recent events, but there were warning flags that all was not well …. and so once more I ask …. should Social Services employ Psychologists to watch Jeremy Kyle?

Difficult question, if they employ them to watch JK are they going to employ them to watch all day time television shows. I think this guy was on at least three.

I do think even from a layman such as me even before the playback the press conference he did was a total sham.

Maybe instead of cutbacks social services could employ the correct amount of people to do there job. When you look at cases like this and especially baby P all the warning signs where there, but the social services didnt do there job properly, mainly from being under staffed. Much stricter, harder rules need to be put in place. Maybe some social workers could do a degree in psycology and behavioural patterens.

I didn't know he had been on there if I'm honest but after what he as done and previously by stabbing his girlfriend 22 times, the man should not have been on the streets and at least been allowed to spawn 6 children with no money.

I took the stance years ago not to have children after 2 miscarriages and deciding with my husband at the time that we couldn't afford it as I was not working. If people thought a bit more before having kids then I think the system would be a lot better

Everyone in the Normanton/Allenton/Alvaston/Blue Peter areas of Derby knows Philpott for what he is (and was from a young teenager) : a twat and a bastard. Common sense tells you that.

CS tells you also that JK is a bastard and that his 'show' is for twats.

By all acounts I've seen and heard the reason the ss were not involved with this family was that the children were clean clothed well fed attended school where they worked hard so why would the ss need to get involved ?Anne widdecomb has stated that he clearly loved his kids & they him they were polite well behaved and respectfull made to attend school by philpott what ever you may say about the children's deaths he clearly loved and careful for then if his crazy crackpot arson plan hadn't gone so tragically wrong 90% of the country wouldn't know him from Adam.ps iam not condoning or excusing his actions the man was a dangerous idiot but I do believe he meant his children no harm

I haven't heard or read any transcripts of this tape I can only base what I said from what Anne Widdecomb stated on the radio after the trial and having spent a week living with philpott which puts her in a unique position to pass this judgement her words were that he clearly loved and cared for his kids

And what about the other professionals that come into contact with the children but its always social services that take the blame. Baby Peter was seen by his GP, health visitor, local police and countless number of doctors and paediatricians in the numerous hospitals that he was admitted to in his sad short life so the social worker is not solely to blame. I think people are under the false impression that social workers can just stroll in and take children when they feel like it but its way harder than that. Thresholds have to be met and at the end if the day it's only the courts or the police that have the power to remove a child from its family not a social worker!!

As always its a lack of communication that's the forefront of these cases the same as the findings of the cases of Victoria climbie and Maria Colwell as far back as 1973. If professionals don't report their concerns then social services don't know to check things out!!!

Anyone willing to go on Jeremy Kyle and air their dirty laundry in public, clearly does not have to deal with consequences in their daily lives.

I've been in the audience of Jeremy Kyle. Great fun but wrong at the same time as it's using people who clearly have issues as entertainment.

This thread was about social services, so that is how i answered the thread. Noone said they where soley responsible. If the title had been doctors or teachers ect, i would of answered it differently

Unfortunately social workers are damned if they do and damned if they don't!! No one reports on the hundreds of children they help but only the very occasional ones that slip through the net.

And I werent trying to impress anyone i dont need to but i was merely making a point that social workers don't kill the children the parents do!!!

We go down the route of Minority Report if we start to criminalise people for things they MIGHT do, but unfortunately it does mean that innocents will suffer because we have to wait until someone has committed a crime before we can do something about them.

jeremy kyle is the sort of place uneducated, benefit culture people go as they are too stupid to sort their problems out themselves.

the average person on his show doesnt work, has a drink and drug problem and obviously never saw the inside of their school.

How embarassing would it be for a woman to go on national telly and say " i dont know who the father of my child is "

apart from that i watch it as it makes me laugh and thankful that i am not in that position

Hindsight is a wonderful thing though isn't it. Lots of things in life perk our interest and we may have passing thoughts about a persons' behaviour and in the very small cases of these people doing something extreme, its all so easy to look back and spot the traits.

Every town has its local 'weirdo', people that stand out as looking or behaving strangely. Who didn't for example think that Jimmy Savile looked like your stereotypical paedophile. The neighbours of Fred and Rose West knew they were a strange couple, but as a society we can't report everyone that falls outside socially acceptable boundaries because we could all be classed as misfits by others with a different personality or lifestyle.

Should any one of us commit a crime and our story was out there in the media, it would be reported 'oh yeah they were swingers, so obviously really weird people with no social or moral code, like animals copulating with all and sundry, no wonder they ended up doing that'....

There must be millions of men like Mick Philpott, a man knocking off two women, loads of kids, not working, claiming benefits, controlling of women, a show off, arrogant, vulgar etc etc. He obviously didn't stand out as anything extraordinary in his community. I admit living with two women probably would have been a bit of a talking point from the neighbours, but they probably didn't see him as overly different and extreme.

I mostly think that 'weird', 'nasty', 'odd', 'wrong' etc. worked perfectly ok as intuitions. But increasingly scummish behaviour has to be analysed, and then inevitably it becomes excused to a degree as we learn to 'understand' it. Yet most people know that's bullshit - some people are just scum.

Psychology can be interesting, but so can horoscopes or handwriting analysis if they tell us what we want to hear.

I get angry at some of those who's the father ones when they tell their story and it's obvious which one is the father, but the girl clearly doesn't know how pregnancy works. It makes me mad thinking that some researcher knew that but put them through DNA tests anyway. For example there was one and the girl was adamant who the father was at first but she went to the doctors and was told she was 8 weeks pregnant, but she'd had sex 6 weeks ago so thought it must have been someone different. Could somebody not have told her 8 weeks pregnant means you conceived 6 weeks ago?! Ok random rant over lol
