Earphones were invented for a reason

It really bugs me when people listen to things on their phone speaker in public for all to hear, such as on a train. I find it completely inconsiderate to others around them.

Use earphones. You may want to hear what you're listening to but I certainly don't.

Am I being unreasonable?

If you are so am I. Esp as you say on public transport or in the pub. I pick the quiet area in the pub because it's quiet until someone comes up to watch videos on their phone.

It's like asking:

"Why do the drivers of cars with the sound-systems cranked up always have the worst taste in music?"

Some say the only reason why drivers with music blaring from their cars think they're cool is because it's too loud for them to hear everyone else call them an arsehole.

Yes, you are being very unreasonable. Both Gallileo *and* the Pope were wrong. The solar system rotates around them and whatever noise pollution they wish to inflict upon you - I mean, edifying content that they are blessing you with.
