"For me it’s definitely Sean Connery, followed by Daniel Craig. Timothy Dalton gets a mention because his screen plays went all awry. " wet fingers I mean gold finger

"David Niven." I was waiting for that. Poor choice, comic film but can’t be considered the best. Don’t get me wrong, I love David Niven but not as Bond.

"Have to say though, grew up watching Roger Moore but find his films way too cheesy now. " Yeah same. I used to always say roger Moore was my favourite, as that's who I watched when I was a kid but going back the comedy is a bit too much.

"So difficult to rank them as it changes often. Connery and Craig are joint top place. However, I do like the Lazenby Bond as he was close to the way Fleming wrote the character, bit of a misogynist cad.. " I agree with this although I think Daltons version is the closest to the books.

"David Niven. I was waiting for that. Poor choice, comic film but can’t be considered the best. Don’t get me wrong, I love David Niven but not as Bond. " From what I have read, he is closer to Ian Fleming's vision of Bond (from a gentlemanly, suave and witty viewpoint) than any other Bond (although Roger Moore comes pretty close as well). I always thought, real spy work was more like "Slow Horses" or "Smiley" than whizz-bang explosions and stuff. As exciting as those may be, I think for a movie to be taken seriously and authentically, it should have a certain verisimilitude about it. (Not that Casino Royale 1967 with David Niven was any better in that regards, it was made deliberately as a comedy and spoof for some odd reason).
