Came across this on the internet...

Apparently they used to be pretty common to stop bleeding from shaving cuts.

Never heard of all one before. Tempted to buy one to see what the hell it is.

Every heard of or used one?

Properly fascinated by what the hell it is.

If it's that good why aren't they still used for small cuts?

Probs down to the advancements in razors these days.

I mean, I use a Mach 3 turbo with just dove soap and rarely get even the slightest bit of a chaff let alone cuts.

My Grandad used to use a styptic pencil to stop bleeding if he cut himself shaving. They sting a bit, but are effective for small areas of bleeding. You can buy styptic powder too, usually marketed for animals. It's made of alum salts and clay or diatomaceous earth and helps blood coagulate quicker. It's only for small/superficial cuts though.

Razors are better. Faces are better. Even the water is wetter these days. Who needs them?

Seems crazy - I feel the need to try one.

Get one. They sting slightly. Last for ages though.

I doubt I'll ever need it - just blew my mind a little that they exist.

Grandad recommended one for me when I started shaving my legs and made an absolute hash of it with a cheap razor

They're very effective.

If you wet shave, even with a modern "safety razor" you can nick yourself.

They're brilliant at stopping any bleeding.

But can give you quite a sting....

I remember my dad using one, back in the days of the old double edged razors. I don't know if they did any good, though.

Alright, I'm going to buy one - just way too curious.

Probably going to be disappointed but it just seems crazy to me.

Superdrug sell them for £2.

Definitely going to be disappointed at this alien technology that I've built up in my head.

What about for postoperative wounds, KC²? I'm asking because I'm spending an inordinate amount of time in hotels these days for my dalliances. Unfortunately some of the femme fatales that I'm meeting are resentful divas and I don't wish to wake up, post coital, with a kidney missing.

Take your own kidneys out, and leave them at home. They can't steal what you don't have.

I have one. Don't use it often as I have a beard but sometimes get a nick when shaving the neckline and they are very effective.

I've used them for almost as long as I've been shaving.

I wouldn't recommend using in on the balls though

I bet most proper barber shops still have them, and I know my nail salon has one for nicks

Seen them too, I think they're an astringent.. seem a good alternative to tissue though it's something I'd lose so for the few times I cut myself I haven''t missed it

Evil bastard things. And not convinced they work.

Although the amount of nicks I get probably says more about me than anything. Stubble ftw.
