"I would love to say I am reading some great literary work to look smooth and sophisticated. Alas at the moment I am an old dog learning a new trick so it is: A crash course in python. Geeky or what!" Nothing wrong with that. I'm reading Jeremy Clarkson I've probably caused many people to put us on their blocked list ![]()

"Non-fiction - Quanta and Fields by Sean Carroll Fiction - Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin Enjoy Sean Carroll’s podcast! Need to try his books ![]() I am yet to hear his podcasts. I love his books. I have read some of his blog posts though. He is one of the very few modern-day physicists who also talk about the philosophical side of science. "Quanta and fields" is the second book of a trilogy where he tries to touch the mathematical side of things for popular physics readers. Very difficult read but very rewarding ![]()

"I just finished the last of the Strike novels (late to the party) so now I need to wait for her to publish the next. I need something decent to read now - Deborah Harkness has just published a new one in the Discovery of Witches series so maybe that and if not, the new M J Arlidge. " Oh thanks for the All Souls series reminder! ![]()

"I've got "and the ass saw the angel" by Nick Cave and a biography of Henry Rollins to read. Found some street treasure books yesterday. Ones is about tarot cards, another is a book of William Blake poetry and a random novel. " I first read "and the ass saw the angel" 35 years ago. I had a note pad by my side to write down all tbe words that I didn't know so I could look them up. Curious to know if i have to do the same again.

" That is true but i dont think the lines between the 2 are definitives that cannot be crossed ..there are some areas open to interpretation. One certainly led to the other in my case ..priorities change and my tastes have developed. In a couple dynamic though it does help to be singing from the same hymn sheet .

"Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman. Well rereading it. It's fantastic, not my favourite Gaiman book but I'm really enjoying it." I'd never read any Gaiman so decided to but Good Omens last year as I do quite like Pratchett and it had good reviews (never watched the TV adaptation). Thought it was utter garbage. Was disappointed.

"I’ve just finished Test Kitchen by Neil D. A. Stewart It describes one night in a two-Michelin star restaurant hidden in a rough East London neighbourhood. A chapter per table of diners, giving backstory. And as you go along, you learn more and more about the restaurant staff. The predictably stressful kitchen, the serving staff with double lives, the impossibly good-looking maître d’ and the one-eyed Glaswegian head chef, who remains eerily calm throughout. But one of the kitchen team is missing. And that sets the whole night off balance. But slowly it becomes clear that something else is off. Something’s very wrong. Something awful has happened. And for the whole first half of the book, you don’t know what that is. There are hints. Gaps in the story. Weirdness at the edges. And then the Bad Thing is revealed and … well, I’m not going to spoil it. But ![]() I can't get google to tell me the ending either dammit. Ive gone straight in for cannibalism then ![]()

"I'm currently reading the rise and fall of the third reich. It's kinda worrying how easy it all happened, how it flowed from seemingly innocuous beginnings." A bit of a door stop book, but given that William Shirer was actually there and only just avoided being arrested and murdered by the Gestapo worth the effort.
