"Would you go through your late partner's phone? Why or why not? I'm curious to hear different perspectives on this sensitive issue."

Um.

Probably.

I'd like to make sure any close friends they had that weren't mine weren't forgotten about in being informed of the situation.

I know when someone in the kink scene passes suddenly there's often weeks or months before the news is actually known by people who they thought of as friends.

"No.

"

It’s her space and I wouldn’t want to intrude on that regardless of the circumstances.

Yes I probably would to get certain phone numbers, the rest I wouldn't touch. Thanks OP, it's made me think that I maybe should ask the other half for certain phone numbers.

No.

I wouldn't do it when they were alive and I'd respect their memory by not doing it when they were deceased.

Why not just hold their memory dear and not potentially read something you wish you hadn't read.

The ONLY time I would go through their phone would be if it was vital .... like their phone held insurance details etc .

No. If they were a partner I'd know all the important people in their lives. Any one I didn't recognise in their phone would make me wonder and I wouldn't want to spoil my memories of them.

With social media you don’t really need to get numbers to tell people so no I wouldn’t. I trust my wife more than I trust anyone in this world but hypothetically if she was gone I’d hate to find something that would ruin my memories of her.

If you have a partner you trust them implicitly or you don't if you don't then leave .

Yes. I did. I needed passwords to accounts that were in her name; to get her banking details; to get the details of friends and people she kept in contact with. I knew there would be nothing untoward on her phone, and I knew she wouldn't mind, given the circumstances. I was right - nothing was a revelation, or a nasty surprise. It was, however, very sad.

I can't see any reason to need passwords to accounts. I didn't need them for anything.
