I know there's been a lot of controversy over this particular race but the course has been altered to make it safer and the horses themselves are bred to race so I'm thinking I'll go ahead and have a flutter.

I've noticed that it's becoming almost 'un-PC' to bet on the National though with some pretty damning comments on Facebook about the 'mass carnage' about to be unleashed at Aintree. Some people will suck the fun out of anything.

If it really was that terrible a race do you really think organisations would allow it yo continue??

Yes it brings in a lot if money but there are other organisations involved to looks at the animal welfare if the horses.

Thread about the grand national invariably lead to slanging matches and I doubt this one will be any different.

The trainers and owners of these horses invest thousands of pounds into them. They are not going to throw that away easily are they?

Why can't people just not watch it if they don't agree with it?

A lot fewer than are killed to put meat on our plates.

I'm sorry, but I feel only vegetarians have the right to get indignant about the Grand National. Yes, the horses stand a chance of being injured or even killed (thankfully not too many) but 100% of animals that walk through a slaughterhouse door die.

Racing horses are worth a LOT of money and I'm pretty satisfied that everything is done to minimise any risks to them.

I'm not a betting person but I've pulled the stops out this year and bet £1 each way on TeaforThree and On his own. As these horses odds are something like 12 to 1 ill book myself a holiday if I win.

The horses I picked in a sweepstake at work are both 100 to 1. I reckon ive got as much chance of either of those winning than if I stuck one of those pony tails fetish things up my backside and ran it myself

p.s. If a horse really really REALLY didn't like jumping fences, it wouldn't.
