Why can't I understand some people

Ok this did crop up in the week when someone reported a fake profile.

I was doing some freelance fraud investigation work a while back due to my ethical hacking skills. I don't do it anymore as it is not a rewarding job.

However I was checking my facebook earlier and I am in some Ibiza group and a picture popped up that I instantly regognised. It is a smoking hot girl saying she lives in London and is traveling to Ibiza on her own on whatever dates and looking to meet up with others to show her round the island. OK I knew the picture but a google image search will show the picture listed with about 50 different names and appears on various scammer websites.

I reported it but there was about 30 comments from guys who were just thinking of going to Ibiza on those dates or "just DMed you hun xx"

I decided to sign up to a dating app for the more broadminded 2 weeks ago and at a glance I could tell that most of the girls looking to meet within a few miles were fake.

Mostly basing it on "If it looks to good to be true it probably is" I did a quick investigation and easily found a few with 100% proof they were fake, the rest would require more invesigation and various tools.

I reported them to the site with and explaination and they thanked me and said they'd look into it. I saw they were still there after 2 weeks and they said they hadn't had time and could I send over some more proof??????

I advised them that I would happily do more investigation for them but they would probably lose about 75% of their profiles and my fee in £550 a day. Obviously they just ignored me.

Maybe its an ADHD thing but why is my first instict to investigate to make sure all is what it seems rather than take it at face valure?

I then started thinking why bother reporting these things? If you are stupid enough to think there is a smoking hot girl (pictures usally taken from models of clothing websites) that lives within a mile and looking for NSA fun but will want some details from your first or even send you a link to click then you deserve to get scammed!

Is it my experience, ADHD???? But I just see it as common sense and can't get my head around anyone who doesn't think like me.

Sorry I just find it fustrating

I guess it comes down that we all carry a device around that will answer just about every question you could have but still don't get it????

Has ignorance now became a choice?

I don’t know why you feel you have to report this but I don’t think it’s something directly linked to ADHD. Perhaps your instincts that lead you to investigate everyone are somehow linked to ADHD. There can be an obsessive thinking component for some people with ADHD. Overthinking can sometimes be a trait similar to what you’re explaining too. If I remember correctly, you mentioned you have inattentive ADHD that would explain hyper focus and organisation and perhaps that’s how you see this reviewing of profiles for fakes behaviour you’re presenting.

I got an entire dating site taken down as it was all a front for only fans or paid porn sites. It was cleaned out but within a few days the same pictures were up with differnt names probably still scamming people. You get to a point when you feel as sorry for people getting scammed as the voters in Clacton on sea

I've no idea whether it's ADHD related (I don't know much about that), but I think you sum it up well.

Fakes are pretty easy to spot. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is, but enough people (mainly men) want to believe so will sign up/pay for whatever marketing that site is pedalling: that's how scams work.

I've never come across a fake profile here, but I have on another site. You can spot them a mile off.

A. They're interested in you.

B. It escalates far too quickly.

I've seen very few on here - but very easily avoided.

It's human motivation to want the good things and it will often override our rational minds.

Many of the sites probably are more motivated to have the scam profiles, hence their lack of response. Like you OP I'd seek to get the problem fixed but I also have ADHD, so am not typical

Sounds like a complete waste of time to me, but if it’s what you want to spend your time doing !!!!!

My approach is that i rarely contact anyone, just wait for people who are interested to contact me and go from there.

I'm one of those who has never engaged with a fake profile in my time here.

I have seen a few very obvious ones starting forum threads every day and being fawned over simply because they have a few nice pics which clearly aren't their own.

I used to report those but they had overlapping profiles and could pick up where the previous one left off using exactly the same pics and a slightly different bio but very few seemed to pick up on this fact and continued to give them oxygen.

Some of these rolling profiles have been posting on the forums for 4 or 5 years in various forms and from the replies they receive I have to assume that people really don't care.

I'm not very invested in the site or the lifestyle and can count my daily engagement in minutes rather than hours but if I can pick up on multiple inaccuracies in that time I have no other explanation for why others can't.

They don't impact my time here directly so I have given up reporting fake profiles and just focus on the many positives.

I think a lot of people on this and other sites have no intention of meeting and are looking for a bit of fantasy. As long as the photos are hot and the chat is dirty they don't care if its actually Dave from Rotherham behind the scenes.

On fab any profile that doesn't contain a cock over a toilet. 72 slightly blury close up photos of said cock in almost the exact same pose and a sky remote/lynx Africa or can of monster size comparison photos are obviously fake.

I do not think it's down to ADHD O.P.

Well done you for questioning all you see and read. If there is one thing we should not let go of it is our own minds, our individuality and our ability to think.

Too many fall foul of 'group think' or 'common sense' and are ignorant of the ignorance they wallow in.

There are those here and in wider society who will argue until they are blue in the face that they are right and yet all they have is an opinion and they fail to distinguish this from fact and truly fail to realise that life isn't a war we have to win, but a process through which we should continue to self develop.

Don't be too harsh on yourself O.P. but also do not obsess nor overwork nor imagine that all live their life as you do

^^€Absolutely this ^^^

There’s hundreds of fake profiles on here, I’ve always been convinced a lot of them are suspiciously “internal” and probably bot generated to bulk out the numbers online and keep the less initiated interested/involved in the site.

Given where the digital revolution is right now, you’d be terribly naive to not be aware that a level of fakery is baked in to every paid site; in reality, all paid sites exist for one thing, revenue.

Yes, some (like Fab) are more useful than others assuming you’re completely aware of the realities.

As above (and others) have said, you really can’t get yourself too invested on here and elsewhere.

If you’re not emotionally aware enough to chat with someone in a pub/coffee shop/Tesco and be confident enough to say hello, then you’re digitally doomed and exactly what the revenue hunters are seeking!

Be safe out there kids

I've seen articles online explaining how and why people fall for the romance scammers.

I'm surprised you don't understand how people are easily fooled.

OP. Why ask someone to do a job, them ask for proof, then expect them to pay you £550 per day for the privilege. Are you selling London Bridge next?

Do you honestly think a company would hand over that kind of money daily? You could send them a shit brick in the post.

They are in a position to remove content, if you are bothered about it, give them the necessary information. It's hardly ethical to expect a reward, if consumers are paying the price - give the information freely or set up a business.

I found that incredibly astute Granny. Well with the exception about the ADHD comment, I think that could well be a factor, as Belladonna said. Not that this detracts from your comment in any way.

I wonder OP what do you get out of it? Are you the caped crusader here to right the injustices of the world with your own idiosyncratic brand of vigilante justice, available at competitive market rates. Or is it something more personal? Do those feelings run deep into the core of your being?

Or are you symptomatic of a liability culture, carving out work for yourself wherever you see the opportunity. Frustrated by the yoke of the nanny-state, peering down the nape of your neck. If they can do it so can I. Imitation is the highest form of flattery after all.

What is your riddle OP?

The people who fall for the very obvious fakes would 100% fall for bugs bunny in drag.

In my early days online I'd do the tineye thing and report the fakes, but after a while I couldn't be faffed any more and stopped. If it's a very obvious fake to me then it's a very obvious fake to everyone else too.

She's not going to Ibiza, neither are the guys posting. None of them want money from me or my loved ones, and I'm not going to waste my time fighting the tide or shouting at clouds.

Not very civic-minded of me but it protects my mental health and energy.

Well first thing to understand is that we all have different brains and experience and process the world differently.

People also believe what they want to believe, those ads work because people want to believe they're true.

It's the danger of the instant and convenient gratification world we have been told we need. Nothing comes for free. Making things faster and more convenient rarely comes with zero consequences. Gathering personal data is huge business now.
