They have a quota of the number of times they have say "It's Coming Home", "1966", "58 years of waiting", and blowing smoke up their arses.

Followed by Lineker and co. Sobbing when they lose. They need all that time to gey all that in.

My kids have seen England play in as many major finals as I have. The youngest is under 10.

They don’t even comprehend the idea of being also rans at major tournaments with more than a mere hope of a decent run and see what happens in our pockets.

For that reason it’s hard to be too disappointed. We have improved massively, still some way to go to get over the line, but can’t help being positive about some of the team who are still under 25 and players coming through.

I think the song lyric suggests that football is “coming home” because the game was invented in England.

The song isn’t “the European championship is coming home”, which seems to be your understanding.

The song was in 1996 though, so if it is coming home it’s taking the long way home.

I think we can all agree that Spain were worthy champions and defensive football does not win major championships any more.

I would be happy for Gareth to carry on as coach so long as the style of football changed in a positive manner.

There’s a lot of positives to take from the Euros, mainly the younger players that are able to change games.

We just need them to start matches and take the game to the opponents

Bah humbug. Usual feeling... I like Southgate but I don't get how everyone can see we have been playing with 10 men and a statue, that none of his coaching team can see kane had his bootlaces tied together by gazza. I mean Spain were the better team and deserved to win but it would have been nice to see us actually throw a punch at some point in our 7 games.

Thank goodness it's not coming home.. The country would have been overhyped with nationalistic pride based on the good luck of some sports team and, worst of all, it would have nourisheded up this already ridiculous bright idea of a totally unnecessary bank holiday.

It is bad enough having the disruption to normal life already caused by sporting events such as this and Wimbledon.

Spain had been the better team throughout the whole tournament but England did fantastically well to get into the final again. They are a quality team and Southgate is the most successful manager they have had in decades so I dont understand all the bashing thats going on.

Yes, Southgate has for England closer to winning tournaments than any other manager in the last half a century. So why the “bashing”? I guess because many fans don’t enjoy watching his style of football, and feel that this squad was actually capable of winning.

Well done England, you got to the final when many other teams got knocked out but lost out in the last few minutes. Sadly someone has to lose, but getting there is a great achievement.

I do think having hope that they win isn't a bad thing but the English seem to get stoned for that. It seems if other sets of fans are hopeful for their team to win it is fine. Wierd that

All I have heard is pundits talking shite about what the current team need to do to win.

I do hope you weren't referring to my post.

I neither knocked the team, nor said that I didn't support them...

From the games I saw, they didn't play amazingly well, a little lacklustre, and didn't seem to be hungry enough, neither did there seem to be enough white shirts for support when necessary. But, having said that, they did extremely well to have made it to the final, but on the night, the better team won (and, from what I've heard/seen, the Spanish team played very well throughout the entire tournament), so congratulations to them.

I would not personally be able to run about on a pitch for 90 minutes plus, however a: I am not a professional footballer and b: I do not make a career out of said sport. They are all around 20 years younger than me, and an awful lot fitter.

However, there are things which I have achieved, which they have not. So *shrug*.

My issue is how everyone elevates footballers to godhood for doing what they are paid to do. And when they fail to do thier job its everyone elses fault, never the players.

So do I I think every country that entered the competition lost except Spain, we got to the final we played some great football in the game against Spain the best I've seen England play for a while and we lost 5 minutes from the end I'd say that's a great achievement but Gareth and the team will be lynched by the mob as usual let's move on to the world cup in 2 years time but none of this it's coming home rubbish and go on go on rubbish let's cheer our team on and delight in great football no matter what.

Yes, both have won the World Cup twice, but England Rugby Union have also won the Six Nations 29 times, 14 of those wins included 14 grand slams (so beating the other 5 nations) and 26 triple crowns (beating Wales and Scotland).

So I think the national rugby team so thier trophy cabinet is a bit crowded compared to the 1 trophy in the national football teams cabinet.

Wee the 6 nations in rugby only started in 2000 and we certainly haven't won that 29 times. I'm a rugby fan but you can't compare the footprint of rugby with that of football. There of course was an equivalent football competition to the now 6 nations. Which was the old home nations championship. No idea how many times England won that but it was plenty.

Rugby is good. Football is good. Both sadly now have fans who unless we win the world cup seem to believe we have failed and start throwing cheap shots about. We have no right to win anything. There is only one winner. All we can do is get up and go again. And... It is posisble to enjoy and support both rugby and football.
