How much should kid’s contribute to the household.

When our children started to work, our guideline was 10% towards 'board & lodging'

How do you work it out.

When i got my first job on a YTS i earnt ££25 a week and gave my mum £15.

My son left home at 16 so he never paid any board, but if i was in the position i would let them know how much the weekly outgoings where and come to a fair amount with them

Sheesh, wish my mother had been the same way - she took 60% - figuring the rest was enough to live on - but I had to buy some of my own food with my 40%, and toiletries and washing powder etc... my mother is a witch!

I was the same yts wage and the parents took a large chunk of it. When my daughter is of an age I would like to be able to help her and whatever I take will be put away for when she needs a deposit for a house but she won't know that!!

A friend with older children did it for hers and yes although she is very wealthy and can afford it and I'm def not i figure that it will be money I've not had before and I'm certain she costs more now for clubs and activities than what she will do when she's working. I never really got anything from my parents and its so hard to get onto the property ladder now I'd like to think I can help!!!

no matter

1/3 of their wages if they expect me to shop clean cook wash iron as I did when they were at home. No doubt still fetch and carry taxi also.

I got £27.50 on YTS scheme, i had to pay £15.. And also had to all my own cooking, cleaning, washing, ironing etc...

When I was at home I was earning £13 pounds a week and gave Mum £5 I also paid the telephone bill from what I had left. Managed to save a bit towards getting married too .

Depends on how much they earn but I think about 25% is about right.

Defo think it's right they contribute something.

I ask for a nominal sum from my son each month, which basically pays for his internet and tv package and therefore he is able to save a fair amount each month. I've left it to him to set up an ISA and his own accounts. He has saved a deposit and his house is in the process of being built. I could have taken the money and saved it up for him but I wanted him to have full responsibility of it

Whatever they can comfortably afford and still have a fun time while they are young and not restricted by too much responsibility. They are only young and carefree for a short period of time so if its affordable then let them keep as much of their money as possible. We only get to live our lives once after all.

I had to pay 120 a month from about 800 a month wage but to be fair my mum funded me through uni lol x

We put both our boys through uni. Our eldest paid us £100/month for 4 months then he moved out to live with his girlfriend. Our other son finished uni last May and then fucked off to Austrailia in June with his Aussie girlfriend.

We don't get any money but we've got our house back

first job i had was yts and i got £25.00 and paid £20.00 board .our son works and earns a decent wage and he pays £20.00 pw but he helps with household bills gas,electric,phone ,food etc so we are quite happy with the board we get .if he was a tight arse he would be paying at least fifty quid a wk lol

My parents didn't take anything off me when I moved home after uni.I had a good job too, but it meant after a year of living at home I bought my own house.

They didn't take anything off my sister either, thinking she'd do the same, but she's a spender not a saver. They should have took it and banked it for her.

So if you can afford not to take anything, or to save it for them, it could set them up for life.

when i lived at home i earned about £125 per week and gave my mom £20 per week and she did my washing cooked etc etc happy days, when our kids grow up we are going to save it for when they need a deposit we think
