I really hope nobody's mother has died.

I don't think I have made an excuse. Actually, I kind of did. Someone asked me to meet on a certain day, I didn't think she was serious. Turned out she was - initially I tried to make up an excuse, but just owned it and apologised. I regretted that, quite the error.

People have cancelled on us a couple of times. Their reasons always seemed genuine. Given the number of people who complain about being stood up I would think any excuse is better than just not turning up

Can’t say I’ve ever made an excuse. I’ve always attended any meets

It’s worse when there’s no excuse to me. Like I’ve gone to ones where they’ve bottled it and I’ve been outside knocking and they message and say “sorry” or just no communication at all… waste of my time and theirs

Hasn’t happened here to us but all I can think when reading your post is that people that are cop outs will pick such an excuse that’d make you look like the dick if you tried to query them about it. No win situation I’d say, cos guaranteed, the one and only time you’d cast a shadow of doubt over it, it’d turn out to be the truth!!!!

Strangest "cancel" I ever got was seeing someone walking up to my first floor flat, looking up as he past then literally turning tail and running away.

Oh I was expecting this to be reasons to skip work

Which I rang in sick for with a stomach bug because I blew the turbo and couldn’t get in

In my return to work my boss asked if I sought medical advice and quickly added no but the car did

It’s good to have a good boss

My problem there is that I'm my own boss, and I don't take any of my bullshit.

I've not had those bad don't have no shows, after getting them to agree a detailed schedule of confirmations. I know very quickly if it's not going to happen

Surely an excuse is better than just not turning up?!

Also. People have lives and things DO happen that thwart plans.

Wherever

If you’re agreeing to meet people who are parents with school age children, you also agreeing to be understanding that unplanned things happen all the time, especially when someone has more than one child, often in different schools.

Can’t comment on the other situations but I did personally cancel many times because of the unexpected circumstances.
