sense of humour...?

Do you find your sense of humour is just completely missed sometimes in writing and people take it way too seriously?

Is the written word harder to be witty in, and not be seen as offensive because you lose body language and tone of voice etc?

You can't pick up a tone in writing nor can you actually see the facial expression which make sit difficult...

If someone is smiling at you, you can pick up a sense of humour....

It is why texts can be so badly misinterpreted

hahaha me too - people always take me the wrong way - I mean I'm not that ugly that doggy is the only way they'll do me, surely? (see maybe this is why my sense of humour gets me into bother lol)

People read words the way that they feel.

So yes, i do think people misunderstand the written word.

Depends on your sense of humour in the first place I think. Certainly things can be misconstrued in the written word, but isn't that what smileys were made for.

I'm a sarcastic cow and some people take it as me being bitchy and mean

To be fair sometimes i am being sarcastically bitchy in certain threads, but the majority of the time its mean't as harmless banter!

I do try and use the smileys when i can to help my comment being read in the right way - though sometimes it really doesn't help

i have always assumed,he was being sarcastic.

Written comedy is incredibly difficult for the very reason you mention. Sarcasm and irony immediately become more difficult.

Most definitely. Somebody explained nicely and gently why she did not want to meet. I replied and said "thank you. You are a nice person " and i meant all of those wordsintheir obvious sense, but after i had sent it wondered if she thought i was being sarcastic.

Yes. Even if I put :P people still take it seriously.

Do example: a mate was moaning on Fb about being single, so I said get on pof and see what he gets

Then this female mate of his said "ell get a girl wen es redi"

So I said "is that Spanish? :P"

Oh how pissed off she was!

I try to indicate my humour using smilies, but some people write really bitchy comments and think sticking a smiley at the end makes it ok

But yes, humour is down to the interpretation of the individual and no matter how many smilies you put, some will get offended anyway

It's mainly organic but you can nick a few seeds off other growers from time to time

Sometimes but then there are a lot who try to use wit to mask snipes. Then there are also people who look to twist words sometimes its best to read something twice.

can make a hell of a difference. two identical comments, one with one without, can provoke wildly different responses.

with - ah he's joking.

without- anything from a laugh to outrage.I veer towards not using them.I can't see the point in telegraphing it.
