Deciding whats best for you.

An acquaintance said to me today, i shouldn't be rushing home, as my kid can take care of themself.

It got me thinking about people deciding whats best for you. Do you mind it or do bristle at the concept?

Granted theres a difference between someone voicing their thoughts and a person making decisions for you.

Is it nice to hand over the reigns and let others decide? At a restaurant for example, letting someone else choose your dinner?

I like expressing my autonomy freely and often.

It drives me mad when someone tries to decide what’s best for me when I’ve otherwise not asked for their opinion on the matter.

i had an acquaintance who would dish all my fab choices, and then suggest i had met the wrong people if they didnt like them - yea i dont really like people telling me - i suppose that's years of being single, I also like to hog the remote.

Did go out for a meal once and was told that i didnt want desert! er yea mate - i do

Oh I fully bristle.

If I ask for someone's advice on a matter, I appreciate their input.

Someone making suggestions during a rant I'm having where I probably am too emotional to reason out the sensible choice, risky.

Someone just telling me I should be doing something for my own benefit, as if I'm too thick to think of it myself or know my own mind, they can fuck off

Few things fuck me off more than uninvited advice or attempts at power-play.

I've got a "friend" doing it at the moment - "because I'm thinking of you Nick".

No mate - you're being a dick who can't manage concepts of personal space and invitations.

My advice is you need to loosen up a bit. It'll be good for you

I really hate people thinking they know what's best for me and telling me what to do.

Jesus. I’d be fuming if someone tried to order my food for me!!! There are many reasons I’ve stayed single for 13 years.

No, can't stand it. Unless you're my mother or pay my wages, you don't get to tell me what to do. People like that would get cut off in a heartbeat.
