I understand comedy is subjective, but who in your mind is stealing a living? Those who have no business being on tv or a stage.

Patrick Kielty. Somehow made his way into primetime tv and Cat Deeleys heart

Gina Yashere. Never seen the appeal

David Walliams. Made a career on punching down and low rent humour and seems like an absolute cunt of a person.

I don't particularly like Lee Evans, he's like a cat with the zoomies, to much back and forth for me and the sweat.

I don't find Rosie Jones funny, I loved her in call the midwife though

Jimmy Carr is a bit hit and miss for me

Matt Rife is funny with his crowd work but his stand up is awful

Bit of an older one but looking back I don’t see why morecambe and wise were hailed as being so funny. Lenny Henry’s stand up is shite. If it wasn’t for him being involved in setting up comic relief you wouldn’t see him doing comedy due to that fact he isn’t funny at all.

Plus I agree with all the others above. It’s good to see as clearly we are all right aren’t we.

I like Jimmy Carr on panel shows but not a huge fan of his stand up as they seem to be a bunch of one liners rather than stories building up to a punchline. But I suppose that's where subjectivity comes in.

Nothing to do with homophobia or bigotry - merely explaining that's why he has an audience, so get off you soap box and stop assuming people are guilty of something because of the way you read a message!

"Bit of an older one but looking back I don’t see why morecambe and wise were hailed as being so funny. I know it’s dated but I ( not that I would) could watch a hour programme and it not even raise a smirk. It’s just unfunny shite. A bloke twiddles his glasses and makes them go up and down and everyone pisses themselves.

Ok hold them high regard as being entertainers then but not as comedy gods due to the fact they aren’t funny at all. I’ve had funnier shits.

Mr Preview disagrees!

That’s fair enough and I know a lot like them I just don’t get how the level of comedy (which in my view is low) is seen to be so hilarious, I know it’s dated but I just don’t see how it was funny then either. Dress up as sailors like a pair of pricks and the gag is stepping into a bucket then dancing with a bucket on your foot!!! Fuck me call the surgeon my side has split right open

Sounds like no-one brought you sunshine

They did but not in the right order. See that’s their funniest joke. Is that really worthy of being held as the most funniest duo ever? I mean really is it. Micky Flanagan said to that couple. How long you two been together? Oh 2 years. You called each other a cunt yet? that’s funnier as a one liner than anything they said. Did they even tell jokes or just stand there and wait for the people to laugh.

Sorry lol. I didn’t realise I disliked the so much.

A lot of Morecambe and Wise was visual comedy. They weren't stand up comedians plugging one-liners.

We tried to watch Roy Chubby Brown a while back. See what all the fuss was about. We're not easily offended and we understand a bit of darkness and controversy. Didn't watch him for long, although longer than we should have to see if it got better. There was no comedy, just a man trying to wing it with total crassness and profanity to a bunch of piss heads. 20mins of our life were not getting back.

To be fair, I don't find her funny either. With comedy being so much about timing and tone which her disability unfortunately interferes with, it disrupts the flow of the show she's in when everyone is waiting for her (ultimately unfunny) punchline which I don't enjoy watching all that much. Fair play for putting herself out there but it ultimately doesn't work

Re: Rosie Jones - perfectly fine if you don't find her comedy funny.

Not fine if you don't like her or mock her because of her disability.

That's the basic rule of anything to do with disability.

That said, you do have to understand that some disabilities mean that people do things that *you* do, just differently. I got on and off a train yesterday, but via shuffling on my arse and then crawling. I didn't see anyone else do that. Just an example.

My view on the whole Rosie thing is that she needs the right vehicle for her humour.

As a writer of comedy I think she can come up with funny lines as good as anyone.

As a stand-up or panel show guest where the comedic value tends to be all about timing then, inevitably, her disability is going to have an effect on delivery and hence the impact of her humour.

One example was the Big Fat Quiz of the Year back in December - the wrong show for her in my opinion due to the above and it disrupted the “flow” of the show.

In my opinion that’s not mocking her disability, but it recognises that her disability does have an impact on the effectiveness of her comedy.

Personally I think her great strength is writing good comedy for others.

Your example of Micky Flanagan as being funny epitomises everything that is unfunny about modern comedians, they have to rely on shock value and swearing that speaks to people’s puerile nature, the total dumbing down to facilitate people’s lack of intelligence, intelligence that is required to recognise and appreciate the subtle nuance of good comedy.

lol just catching up with the comments on my Anti morecunt & unwise ranting yesterday. lol.

Yes I agree they are not stand up but the post was unfunny men or women which these two clearly fall into. Honestly I wouldn’t mind if people said they were ok ish. I just don’t get how hilarious people found them at the time and still claim they were. People falling over pissing themselves laughing. Just doesn’t seem to match the acclaim. Comedy god like genius. More like couple of sop like penises lol. "

You laugh at your own rudeness.

Whether Morecambe and Wise are funny or not today doesn't matter too much.

They are dead and therefore no longer doing stand up or television shows.

In 1977 they pulled in more than 20million viewers. Benny Hill once pulled in about 23 million ..... about 1971.

The highest viewing for any comedy show last year was just over 6 million with other 'high' viewings being 4 million.

I think you are missing the point entirely. Morecambe and Wise wouldn't pull that many viewers today nor would very many people laugh out loud at them.

I will watch them very rarely for nostalgia but i've changed in opportunity ,experience and humour just as comedy does and comedians do.

In their hey day Morecambe and Wise were New, Up to the Minute, Refreshing , Clever, Hard working , Innovative, self effacing and yes ........ Genius

They deserve every accolade they got and get. They deserve their place in the annals of comedy fame.

Would I pay to see them today ..... No but then I know the world has changed somewhat as has technology and I wouldn't be lining up to push a handcart to London when I can travel in so many other ways.

Does it matter if someone finds them unfunny now ? Not really.

Does it matter that after all they did for the development of comedy they get called penises..... to me it does.

Nothing is for everyone.

In this world where we live, there should be more happiness. I hope you have laughter, sunshine and love.

I started singing there and doing the stage exit dance, wish I hadn’t , out of breath for the day now but laughing

Don't forget to skip off like Eric Morecambe

In fairness though in 1977 there were what 3 channels? That would make the stats a little disparate to modern figures.

I do think comedy or any artform really, has to considered in the context of it's time to be fully appreciated though, I agree.

In that era it was family entertainment, people watched TV with their kids maybe 3 generations in the house. In that sense I think they were very talented comically and as entertainers.
