What do you think is lurking in the male psyche that inspires so many guys to post deliberately inflammatory topics/posts and then get immediately butthurt with the response?

Usually followed by 'why is everyone attacking me?'

Is it trolling? Or attention seeking?

Just clueless?

There's enough posts of that nature every week today I'm genuinely curious what people think goes on in guys heads.

And it's usually men. Rare to see threads like that from women. At least in my experience.

I think some guys have a chip on their shoulders, and a degree of unfulfilled entitlement. They derive a certain satisfaction from railing at the world, and stirring up controversy. For some, they enjoy it so much that they'll go out of their way to be offensive, and then act like the injured party when they're confronted for "just having their say".

It could be that or it could be scapegoating.

If a group forms a consensus that this is a behaviour attributable to men, then that creates a culture predisposed to hostility towards men. And one that jumps to conclusions in order to confirm their bias. Especially when topics are raised that contravene the culture of the group - which are often viewed as inflammatory.

In such a case it is quite likely that an individual could feel attacked.

Or maybe men are just dickheads. I don't know.

And I've seen similar from women and couples over the years.

I guess some people just need to vent, and typing words on the Internet gives them that outlet, when they can't discuss the issue with family or friends.

There's a subset of the media that claims that "if they attack me, it means I'm right". I've seen that carry through to ordinary people online - post something inflammatory, feel justified because people go "wtf?!"

It's a combination of a toddler shouting penis in Tesco, because any attention is good attention, and "but all the cool kids are doing it!"

Can't explain all cases but I sense immaturity in many posts that seek affirmation from other users, the same normally received at school in their formative years and with his pals at the pub nowadays, because no one ever told them better, but here they find grown ups with their own ideas, a wide range of experiences and not afraid to disagree, so it's a shock when they do not find the herd mentality acquiescence they were looking for that they can't get from their pals at the pub (obvs, they won't admit to their friends that they can't get their dipstick wet in a "sex site").

Yes to this. It's so important, especially for those of raising boys, to help them navigate all of this.

This is a reasonable point and I do agree that negative stereotyping of men does happen on fab and almost certainly contributes to an attitude that paves the way for disruptive behaviour for a certain subset of men.

Yet some men, most men even, manage to rise above that because people who stereotype are really no better than the shit stirrers.

We are still all responsible for our actions and I don't think anyone should be surprised if they are acting like a child trying to start a bun fight and then gets comeuppance.
