I’m a spit n saw dust sort of bloke

Work had booked me into this swanky hotel last night

No complaints it was lovely

But I felt so uncomfortable and out of sorts

How do you fit into posh places ?

Like a chameleon. Love spit and sawdust places, jeans and tee shirt, knowing the exits as they are the best nights.

Equally comfortable thinking I'm fat James Bond in swanky places both home and abroad.

Don't stay in the wrong end of town in Quito though!

I love looking like I don’t belong in those places.

It’s amusing to watch the confusion of the staff.

I once stayed at the Ruebens, which is opposite Buckingham Palace. It was a work gig that a client paid for. Me and my gang were head to toe covered in dust, grease, sweaty from the days grafting. Filthy overalls, the works. Imagine the look of horror on the doorman’s face when we produced keys to the rooms, meaning he had to let us through the door. His initial look was of total disdain and disgust.

I'm a West End kinda gal and I lurve my East End Boys ... Took my ex (a builder) to a Manor House Hotel for his birthday.

We had afternoon tea, walks in the grounds with squawking peacocks, white linen table covers, four course dinner with wine and to bed in a four poster. High thread count Egyptian sheets of course.

Problem was, the hotel staff were mostly sexist, looking at him when we checked in, when choosing the wine etc.

He said he didn't know what to expect and never felt so uncomfortable in his life... Oh dear...

I really like decent hotels. I suppose you'd call them posh.

I fit right in because they don't care who you are if you're paying. The people who work there are ordinary people like me and only really care whether you're couple decent guest.

A hotel is a hotel, especially for work - somewhere to sleep and then get up and repeat the next day. I just rock up in usual work gear - jeans and t shirt - and get on with it.

The only people who tend to blink an eye in posh hotels are those people who never stay in them. The staff have seen it all and generally don’t care what you wear.

Love taking a posh lady with me to posh hotel. All dressed smartly and smelling good. Took one to Claridges for special occasion. My wife bless her never minds or complains who I go with but got some grief with this

I tend to find the posh places have the facilities to tend to my horse, shoe shine my boots to a higher standard, ensure my top hat doesn’t get damaged and starch my collars much better.

I don't think anybody should look down on anybody unless helping them up.

Anybody can "look & act posh,whatever that is"

But at the end of the day we all bleed red and are all born naked and all end up dead..

You are who you are and if people can't accept you for who you are then they not worth your time. In my opinion anyway

Bullshit. You can't polish a turd. Yes you can throw glitter on it, but it's still a turd. I work with plenty of creatures you could throw a tux on but they wouldn't be able to pull it off.

Depends on the circumstances and where you’re at mentally.

Enjoyed five star and equally had a ball in “faulty towers” type places with nails sticking out the wrong way to hold dodgy shelf’s on the wall lol.

Me too best do far had a bath in the bedroom. I was by myself but enjoyed the week

I like posh hotels. No, luxury. I wouldn't say they're posh.

I don't think it's about fitting in as such, they attract such a wide range of clientele and as long as you're respectful, they don't bat an eyelid. I think it's more about how comfortable you feel.

For me it's about the experience. The signature scent in the lobby, the beautiful decor, the room where you can escape from your daily life filled with little details that make you smile. The soft plush bedding, the perfect shower or bath you can share with another, the good food with a simple call. The service that can feel almost personalised to you once there's that level of familiarity. And they're fantastic places for photos.

I don't think a hotel has to be luxury to be good, you can find that sort of thing in some beautiful mid-range properties if you know what to look for/when to book.

But there's something nice about staying in one. Especially with a lover/partner.
