East London

Running 2 doors down to knock for my best friend and playing marbles and Jacks on here path.

Sunday afternoons on a winter's day, with the windows steamed up from the cabbage boiling away in the kitchen.

Holidays at our chalet in Leysdown.

Walking to school in my Bay City Rollers trousers.

My mum taking me to get pie, mash and liquor in Chrisp Street Market.

My dad, working in the garden on a sunny weekend.

Trips to Clacton and Southend with the whole family, by train.

My long hair.

Mostly pain free nights

Nothing much, I was awkward with no friends and fairly strict parents (they had good intentions)

I remember studying Phillip Larkin in English A level and the English teacher saying something about this being the best time of our lives and really hoping he was wrong! (As far as I’m concerned he was, I’ve started to grow into myself and find my groove )

Not having a care in the world.

Life was mapped, everything organised for you.

See your mates everyday.

Playing football until it got dark.

Drinking underage and falling asleep in fields.

Ringing the operator on 123 from a pay phone and asking for the time.

The talking clock!

Grand parents and mates who passed on some prematurely.

Freddos being less than a mortgage.

Skinny dipping in the lake in the summer.

Huddled outside shop doorways in the winter.

Always laughing.

There's a lot I miss. I had a great time growing up.
